HTC Desire 300 plays on entry-level wants and needs

HTC Desire 300 plays on entry-level wants and needs

The team at HTC are bringing a collection of smart devices to IFA 2013 this week, the lowest-end of the bunch coming in as the HTC Desire 300. This device brings on some of the features included with the hero device HTC One including HTC BlinkFeed - an element of the user interface formerly called HTC Sense (though not quite so readily titled as such these days). This device is not meant to be a low-level replacement for the HTC One, rather it's here to present the most minimalistic vision of the ideal smartphone HTC is able to create.

High-ranking HTC officials arrested for embezzlement and selling trade secrets

For some employees at technology companies the lure of easy money for selling trade secrets or embezzling funds earmarked for other purposes is too hard to resist. The technology world is riddled with accounts of executives getting caught stealing money out a company tills or selling trade secrets to competitors to turn a profit. HTC is currently embroiled in a scandal that has seen several high-ranking officials from the company arrested.

HTC One Max toys with fingerprint sensor in leaked images

HTC One Max toys with fingerprint sensor in leaked images

While it's not entirely unlikely that the HTC One Max (still not confirmed to exist in and of itself) would be delivered with a fingerprint scanner aboard, images appearing today appear slightly less finalized than past iterations. What we're seeing in the HTC One Max thus far is a test phone, one aimed at the "phablet" range of devices also being attacked at the moment by the Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and the Samsung Galaxy Mega - a 6.3-inch phone released internationally and just today confirmed for several USA-based carriers. Today's HTC One Max leak includes several pogo-pins for docked charging and a black block suggested by photo source ePrice as a fingerprint reading sensor.

Sony Lens Cameras teased: attaching to all, from Xperia to iPhone

Sony Lens Cameras teased: attaching to all, from Xperia to iPhone

As tipped all the way back near the middle of July, Sony's Lens Cameras (DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100) once again appear to be upon us. These cameras are appearing in press images this afternoon courtesy of Sony Alpha Rumors both on their own and attached to the Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia i1, aka Honami. The DSC-QX10 as well as the DSC-QX100 will be working only when working with a Sony smartphone, meaning they've got their own hardware inside not normally found in the body of a replaceable lens system.

HTC One X+ Android 4.2.2 software update leaked: BlinkFeed and Zoe aboard

HTC One X+ Android 4.2.2 software update leaked: BlinkFeed and Zoe aboard

It would appear that HTC isn't going to keep a selection of key software features from its 2013 HTC One lineup here in the present if one (unofficial) software leak for the HTC One X+ has anything to say about it. Though Engadget's chat with HTC suggests that this software update is not one sent by HTC on purpose, it does exist. And the possibility that HTC could send out something rather similar officially, rather soon, is very real.

5500 miles with a smartphone

5500 miles with a smartphone

Smartphones are everywhere. We not only hear this (often with a negative connotation) in our everyday lives, but we witness it, too. It doesn’t matter where you go: to dinner, to the theater, to the bus stop, to the checkout line. It seems every hand holds a smartphone, and every eye is perpetually fixated upon them.

How deeply do smartphones influence and otherwise supplement our lives? Such is not a new question, but one I found myself asking with increasing frequency this summer during a near 40 day road trip from one end of the United States to the other. I spent 5500 miles with my smartphone, and for one drought-ridden summer in an old van it became my best friend, my personal navigator, my faithful mentor, my distraction, my solution, my lifeline - maybe even my crutch at times.

HTC One Max Robert Downey Jr full-length teaser appears [UPDATE]

HTC One Max Robert Downey Jr full-length teaser appears [UPDATE]

While just a couple of bits and pieces were spilled yesterday, overnight it would appear that HTC made with the full-length video spot for their newest campaign entitled "Big Things Ahead." They also use the tag #HTChange, a single iteration of the multi-word collection of possibilities for what H.T.C. could stand for. It's also been suggested that this advertisement teases not only the HTC One Max, but the oncoming brand embodiment by Robert Downey Jr., Iron Man himself.
