Verizon HTC One Max appears ready for Winter

Verizon HTC One Max appears ready for Winter

This holiday season you may well be looking to grab the larger relative smartphone of the HTC One from Verizon, so says a leaked set of photos showing this HTC One Max with its much-more-massive display and the carrier's logo up front. This would be an odd move for Verizon as they waited until the DROID DNA - aka the massive Butterfly S from overseas here in the USA - to expire before they released the HTC One. It would be strange because the HTC One Max might compete with the HTC One - but then again, so does the Galaxy Note 3 compete with the Samsung Galaxy S 4.

HTC One Max release imminent as GCF approves

Showing up this week in the approval bin for the Global Certification Forum is none other than the mysterious HTC One Max, a device that's about to be unveiled on a global scale with a look rather similar to that of the original HTC One. While HTC has not unveiled the device itself in full detail (or indeed confirmed that it exists at all), the large handset has appeared in leaks and rumors for several weeks. Inside this competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a brain that looks to essentially replicate that of its smaller predecessors.

HTC One Max appears in photos: headed for China first

This week the HTC One Max has been verified as existing once again in a series of photos presented by the MIIT, that being essentially the FCC of China - so to speak. What you'll see here is the front, back, left, and right of the device as it's headed to Chinese mobile carriers, showing off the device's several unique features and abilities in the hardware arena. On its back, the HTC One Max appears with what seems to be the same 4-ultrapixel camera with optical image stabilization as the HTC One, right alongside a brand new fingerprint scanner for log-in-level security.

HTC One Max rumor round-up: not just another clone of One

There's little that isn't known about the upcoming device called HTC One Max, with a variety of up-close photos, specification lists, and this week even a set of camera samples pushed to the web by play-testers. What's interesting about this particular machine isn't it's basic specifications - they're set to essentially replicate those of the HTC One save a larger area for the 1080 x 1920 pixels to spread up front - it's the back side of this beast we're interested in.

Microsoft and HTC battle Apple with iPad and iPhone trade-in programs

Microsoft and HTC battle Apple with iPad and iPhone trade-in programs

Though it's not immediately clear what Microsoft and HTC are doing with the devices they're taking in trade, they've both made clear this week that they're not about to let Apple have all the fun with an upgrade program for devices. Microsoft has launched a program specific to iPads and their own Surface tablets this week, noting that they'll be giving at least $199 for any iPad that's in generally OK working condition - in store credit, of course. Meanwhile HTC is accepting basically any smartphone you could possibly have, but are (starting this week as well), making sure their trade-in program centers on the iPhone and their own HTC One.

Blue HTC One release a Best Buy exclusive in the USA

Those planning on heading in to their local mobile carrier this week to pick up the HTC One in Metallic Blue had better think twice: this device is coming to Best Buy exclusively inside the USA. While the Blue HTC One doesn't differ from its silver or red iterations inside, the casing (the metal casing front and back, that is) is distinct. The folks at HTC have suggested that special pricing will be in effect this weekend as the Blue HTC One kicks off as a color exclusive for Best Buy this Sunday.

iPhone with 6-inch display tipped for testing at Apple

iPhone with 6-inch display tipped for testing at Apple

Just as Apple is set to show of their next round of iPhone devices with 4-inch displays - like the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, for example - word has it that they're in testing with handsets as large as 6-inches. A report from the the Wall Street Journal today suggests that sources familiar with the matter have informed them of Apple testing displays for iPhones anywhere from 4.8-inches all the way up to 6-inches diagonally. This would place Apple squarely up against the likes of the HTC One (with it's 4.7-inch display) and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (with it's 5.7-inch display) for a battle that wont begin until next year (at the very soonest).
