Windows Phone Tango leaks: ported to HTC HD2

, Mar 16th 2012 Discuss [0]

The next version of Windows Phone, Tango (or should that be Refresh?), is aimed at devices with lower specifications, like the Nokia Lumia 610. There are some limitations on what can run in the background when it comes to multitasking, and the update supports devices running only 256MB of RAM. So far the release of Tango has been pegged for a frustratingly vague “Q2” launch, but ROMs have already been leaked and ported to a number of devices. Read The Full Story

Windows Phone hack could create Android dual-boot

, Nov 19th 2011 Discuss [30]

Enterprising modders are seemingly one step closer to getting Windows Phone 7 devices to dual-boot with Android and other platforms, with Samsung's Focus being coaxed into running an unofficial bootloader. The handiwork of DFT (Dark Forces Team)'s Cotulla, the hack currently allows the MAGLDR bootloader to run after the Focus' original bootloader, with the eventual goal being a selection of official and unofficial ROMs to choose from. HTC September 1 Facebook event to be all Mango?

, Aug 23rd 2011 Discuss [3]

If you recall last week I mentioned that HTC had put up a Facebook invite to get users to come over to an event it was holding in London. At the time, I speculated that likely meant some new devices would be shown off at the event. BGR has been told by a source that new products are exactly what HTC will be showing off. Amazon, Samsung, HTC… who’ll be webOS’ new suitor?

, Aug 19th 2011 Discuss [17]

HP’s decision to amputate its webOS hardware line and attempt to tourniquet the cash gush has left the platform’s future in the air. The TouchPad and Pre lines may be dead in the water, but HP has made it clear that the company is “not walking away from webOS” but instead, according to developer relations VP for the platform Richard Kerris, intends to “explore the best hardware partner for it.” Who, though, might be in the market for a plucky platform yet to find a manufacturer who can match it with appealing hardware? With the mobile segment in its current flux, there are some big names out there who could well be interested.

Apple targets HTC in second ITC patent case

, Jul 11th 2011 Discuss [8]

Apple has filed a new ITC complaint against HTC, the second such suit alleging patent infringement. The exact devices covered by the complaint are unknown at present, though Apple’s complaint – “Portable Electronic Devices and Related Software” – looks broad enough to cover not only HTC’s smartphones but tablets and perhaps HTC Sense, the company’s custom interface primarily found on Android handsets as well.

Windows Phone 7 ROM Loaded Onto HTC HD2, Missing Windows Live Services [Video]

, Jan 13th 2011 Discuss [0]

The development community can make any phone live long past its manufacturer support timeline. For the HTC HD2, which features plenty of hardware to make it a stand-out device even in today's market, the fact that it wouldn't be able to be upgraded to Windows Phone 7 rubbed a lot of owners the wrong way. But, thanks to the development community, Windows Phone 7 hasn't been a complete stranger to the device. And now, thanks to Dark Forces Team (DFT) a true-to-life Windows Phone 7 ROM is available for the HD2. Read The Full Story

Nexus S Booted to MeeGo OS

, Jan 9th 2011 Discuss [4]

Our pal Steven Troughton-Smith, aka XDA Developers Forum member stroughtonsmith, has released word that MeeGo has successfully been booted from the Nexus S. He and those working with him have booted MeeGo on their Nexus S handsets from a rootfs image on their internal memory - that means no flashing is needed at all! This is big news because not only does MeeGo offer a whole different operating system on a powerful bit of device, but it might very well be the first operating system (aside from the native Android) to work on the Nexus S successfully. Super fun and awesome hackin away! Read The Full Story
