HTC faces bleak future as July revenues drop 45%

HTC’s 2012 smartphones have been met with favorable reviews, but it looks like the numbers aren’t reflecting the quality of the handsets. HTC has reported its July 2012 revenues, with the company amassing ~$835 million. That’s down 45% compared to July 2011, with the company also dropping ~$168 million compared to May of this year. HTC’s share prices fell by 7% after the news was released, with the company’s stocks sitting at their lowest since November 2008, according to Reuters.

HTC took to the stage at Mobile World Congress back in February promising a more streamlined smartphone lineup, a plan that it seems to have stuck to so far with the HTC One X, One S, and One V. Now word comes from The Verge that the company is busy behind the scenes working on a new handset that sounds like a refreshed version of the HTC One V. The codename for the phone is “Proto,” although it’s not clear where it will fall in HTC’s lineup.

Apple: 29 HTC phones still infringe our patent and we want them banned

HTC may have managed to satisfy the US International Trade Commission (ITC) that its recent smartphones don't infringe Apple patents and ought to be allowed into the US, but Apple isn't willing to give up the fight. The company claims 29 of HTC's devices - including the new One Series - violate its patented technology, and is demanding that the ITC step in fast to clamp down on the alleged infringements.

In what's quickly becoming one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones on its carrier of choice, the HTC EVO 4G LTE's release situation has just turned back to positive with a May 24th ship date on the books. The HTC EVO 4G LTE was recently the subject of an investigation / check sort of event at the US border while HTC's shipment (which also included HTC One X) units were held up on account of their supposed patent-infringing software. Since we first heard that news, HTC's newest relative of the HTC One series has been cleared - or is about to be cleared, at least, as its carrier suggests the late May shipping date as a reality for pre-order customers.

HTC US supplies slowly restart after software tweak

Are you feeling the squeeze yet? The AT&T One X and EVO 4G LTE are facing stock shortages in the United States thanks to a block at customs ordered by the ITC back in December. HTC was found to infringe on one of Apple’s patents relating to context menus used when select phone numbers or email addresses. It hasn’t been clear exactly when the ban will be lifted, but HTC has released a statement saying that some phones have slipped through customs already.
