HTC backing out of US tablet market

HTC backing out of US tablet market

The tablet market has been fierce recently. The battle between Google, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and of course Apple has been making it more difficult for other manufacturers to gain traction with tablets of their own. HTC, specifically, has been having a hard time, which is why they've announced they're intention to back out of the tablet game.

What happened to the HTC Hero Device strategy?

What happened to the HTC Hero Device strategy?

Back in January of 2012 a message was released by HTC’s UK chief Phil Robertson that made it clear how the manufacturer would be limiting the amount of devices they'd release in 2012 - what happened to that promise? The words relayed back then made it seem as though HTC would be going Apple's way with a strategy that focused on a single phone - or perhaps a small collection of phones - that would be supported in ways that simply are not allowed by a strategy that includes phone after phone released in tight succession. This was an amazing opportunity for HTC - what happened?

HTC One X+ official: We go hands-on!

It's six months since HTC launched the One X, one of its best smartphones in years, and with the HTC One X+ the company hopes it can polish its flagship back to the top of the list. Outwardly identical to the One X, albeit with a new matte black case and red detailing, the One X+ makes its changes on the inside, upgrading the processor to a 1.7GHz quadcore NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37 and massaging the smartphone's guts to accommodate a larger, 2,100 mAh battery. We caught up with HTC for some pre-announcement playtime.

Samsung Galaxy Stellar Review

Samsung may be best known for its effort in the high-end market, but it didn’t get the title of largest smartphone manufacturer just by pumping out the biggest and best all the time. In addition to top-of-the-line, Samsung also hits the budget scene hard, with its latest budget-priced offering being the Galaxy Stellar. Now available at Verizon, the Galaxy Stellar brings Android to the masses on the cheap, but is it the worth your time, and more importantly, is it worth signing a two-year contract for?

HTC One note device appears to battle Samsung Galaxy

A new device slightly larger than a smartphone has appeared with HTC branding on it this month that looks to be a competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Note in the very near future. This device has a red border and red rim around its back-facing camera lens, suggesting this device will be working with either the EVO line or Verizon's DROID offerings. This device also brings on a three-button setup on the front, suggesting that it'll be released with at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will likely be part of HTC's extended One lineup.

Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE Review

This week we've had a look at the next slide-out QWERTY smartphone to hit the 4G LTE universe in the Motorola PHOTON Q. This device represents some of the best and the worst in the smartphone market today, starting with Motorola's lovely take on a QWERTY keyboard, complete with light-up keys that feel rather nice to tap away on. The Sprint network, on the other hand, has been a letdown - both to the operating system and the hardware it's working with.

HTC Proto details hint at improved One V

HTC took to the stage at Mobile World Congress back in February promising a more streamlined smartphone lineup, a plan that it seems to have stuck to so far with the HTC One X, One S, and One V. Now word comes from The Verge that the company is busy behind the scenes working on a new handset that sounds like a refreshed version of the HTC One V. The codename for the phone is “Proto,” although it’s not clear where it will fall in HTC’s lineup.
