Amazon Phone “Smith” tip appears with 3D interface

There's little doubt at this point that there's an interest in the public in what would essentially be an Amazon Android-based smartphone with a structure not unlike that of the Kindle Fire series of tablets. What we're seeing today is the newest in a long line of rumors in what would almost certainly be a Fire OS (Android-based) operating system running on an Amazon smartphone. Here the newest tip suggests that there will be two, not just one, smartphones working in the near future, the more high-end iteration to be code-named "Smith".

Apple: 29 HTC phones still infringe our patent and we want them banned

HTC may have managed to satisfy the US International Trade Commission (ITC) that its recent smartphones don't infringe Apple patents and ought to be allowed into the US, but Apple isn't willing to give up the fight. The company claims 29 of HTC's devices - including the new One Series - violate its patented technology, and is demanding that the ITC step in fast to clamp down on the alleged infringements.

HTC stripping Carrier IQ from CDMA phones this month

HTC has confirmed that it is removing any lingering trace of Carrier IQ from its CDMA handsets, including the HTC EVO 3D, as it moves to address the PR nightmare of the usage-tracking system. Furore over Carrier IQ broke late last year, when it was suggested by privacy advocates that some carriers and device manufacturers were preloading tracking software that periodically sent back user-information.

This month AT&T have revealed their first two 4G LTE devices, the Samsung Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid, the latter device being the one we're having a look at here today. This device is the next step in the HTC smartphone design evolution, and as you'll see in the video portion of the review below, it's almost as if they asked someone on the 3D mockup crew to cut off all the edges and make something sharp! We've already got AT&T 4G LTE speed tests from one of the few areas AT&T has its LTE network deployed (in Texas,) now it's time to see if the phone stands up to the pressure of the rest of the HTC family (and the rest of the AT&T family as well.)
