HTC One 2 “M8″ expected as 2014 flagship smartphone

HTC One 2 “M8″ expected as 2014 flagship smartphone

This week it's becoming clear that the company that set its sights on a single machine to turn around fortunes through the 2013 smartphone season will be bringing an HTC One reboot by the end of the year. It's not a solid announcement, of course, and HTC isn't saying so officially quite yet, but in addition to a reboot of the One that's lead the way through the past bunch of months, the company is being tipped to bring an HTC M8 to the public in 2014.

HTC 8XT brings BoomSound July 19th, ATIV Odyssey tags along today

HTC 8XT brings BoomSound July 19th, ATIV Odyssey tags along today

It's not the most one-shot of launches, but it would appear that these brothers-in-arms from HTC and Samsung are headed to the market together to bring Windows Phone 8 to the masses this summer. While Samsung aims for a slightly more familiar face with the ATIV Odyssey starting today (online) for its 4G LTE-slinging US Cellular iteration, the HTC device will have to wait a bit longer. But what HTC brings to the party may just be worth that wait - the most powerful front-facing speakers on a smartphone in the market, only otherwise available on the HTC One (and the Butterfly S, of course).

HTC One Android 4.2.2 (with Sense 5.0) update detailed

HTC One Android 4.2.2 (with Sense 5.0) update detailed

The update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on both the HTC One and the HTC Butterfly (international version of the DROID DNA, that is), has been a long time coming. Today it's appeared only on some international models of the HTC One with a bit of a boost to Sense 5.0 as well (without the name change) - and the aesthetic changes are what's heading the pack. While we're expecting this change to hit carrier models in the near future, right this minute it's just popping up on a select few models across the sea.

HTC One’s big brother tipped with 5+ inch screen

HTC One’s big brother tipped with 5+ inch screen

This week has certainly been one for unofficial HTC One announcements - today's comes in at 5-inches or more with a smaller cousin in the works as well. While earlier today the HTC One was suggested to be coming in a so-called "Google Edition" with exclusive aim for Verizon, this afternoon there's word that two MORE HTC One relatives are in the mix. The first of these is the HTC One's larger relative, while the second is one we've heard of before: the HTC M4.

Verizon HTC One tipped for today’s press event [UPDATE: Nope]

Verizon HTC One tipped for today’s press event [UPDATE: Nope]

This morning it's been suggested to SlashGear by a trusted source (the anonymous kind) that the HTC One will be appearing at the Verizon press event taking place at 11AM PST in Las Vegas today during CTIA. This event has been teased as one with a "Special Announcement", which could mean anything, but given the atmosphere and the suggestion, we have no reason to doubt that the HTC One will be part of the show.

HTC One variant appears in code: Verizon may be brewing

HTC One variant appears in code: Verizon may be brewing

As the HTC One was released in review unit form earlier this year, it became apparent that a cross-carrier release in the USA wasn't as cut and dry as it first appeared. The largest carrier in the United States, Verizon Wireless, was tipped to be considering releasing the HTC One on their 4G LTE network not only breaking from their original passing on such a release, but with an unheard-of lack of additional branding. While the HTC-made DROID DNA still sits as Verizon's hero device by that manufacturer, a deeply embedded code leak discovered this month may be an indicator of Verizon's push to bring the HTC One to its ranks soon.

HTC and TSMC talks tipped for Panasonic smartphone buy-out

HTC and TSMC talks tipped for Panasonic smartphone buy-out

Panasonic isn't just looking to get out of the plasma TV business but to shed its little-loved smartphone division too, Japanese reports claim, with HTC and chip fab TSMC tipped as potential bedfellows for the mobile team. Having seen its ELUGA range of waterproof phones fail to gain traction, Panasonic is considering shedding the ailing division altogether, the Sankei Shimbun reports, with insiders pointing to some unexpected interest.

HTC One Verizon release in question as Tweets disappear

HTC One Verizon release in question as Tweets disappear

This week the HTC One has been once again teased for release on the 4G LTE-toting Verizon network here in the United States. Whoever is behind the wheel on the HTC Twitter account has more than once replied to users across the USA saying that they have no plans to release the HTC One on Verizon Wireless - though quickly after replying in more than one case, these tweets have disappeared entirely.

HTC One Review [2013]

HTC One Review [2013]

It's been a tough few years for HTC, unsung victim of the Apple-Samsung smartphone war, and the new HTC One has a lot to do to fix that. The company has seen its place in Android dwindle from trailblazer to also-ran, as Samsung's cutting-edge hardware and vast marketing budget forced Galaxy to the fore. Solid phones like 2012's One X and One S failed to relight HTC's fire, and so it has done the only thing it can: raise its game much, much higher with the HTC One. We're back to the days of risk-taking hardware decisions and legitimately interesting software, but the big question is whether the One can pull it off. Read on for the full SlashGear review.
