Palm has begun a fresh round of hiring, and the webOS maker isn't hanging around when it comes to paving the way for the 4-5 new smartphones and tablet expected to launch in 2011. While various engineer and management positions are open, it's likely Business Development Manager - expected "to successfully recruit and manage partnerships with top strategic developers to deliver compelling solutions and applications for the webOS ecosystem" - that will pave the way for further webOS success, as they boost App Catalog content. Why TIME Got It Right

, Dec 16th 2010 Discuss [9]

In a controversial move, TIME magazine declared Mark Zuckerberg its Person of the Year. Only TIME magazine can do something controversial by avoiding controversy. I’m speaking, of course, of the more obvious pick for Person of the Year, Julian Assange. With the WikiLeaks dump still fresh and flowing, there is certainly an argument to make that Assange had more effect on the world than Zuckerberg. But I think that Time magazine got this one right.

, Dec 14th 2010 Discuss [2]

HP's first webOS-based tablet has found itself a launch window, though the timings are guesstimates from analyst digging rather than any official word from the company itself. Having met with Asian tech sources recently, BMO Capital Markets analyst Keith Bachman believes the webOS tablet will arrive in March 2011; so far, HP has only confirmed that the slate is on track for release sometime in 2011. According to DigiTimes' industry sources, HP plans to order 6-7 million Inventec-made webOS tablets; it's unclear whether this is a different model to the webOS tablet Foxconn was tipped to be producing, or if HP has switched its OEM allegiances. HP webOS Tablet Arriving First Quarter of 2011

, Aug 10th 2010 Discuss [0]

When HP acquired Palm, there was a lot (and we mean a lot) of speculation about what would happen to webOS. Would it be appropriately utilized? Or would it fade away into oblivion, leaving all of us wanting more? Thanks to HP, they were quick to assure us that webOS wouldn't be going anywhere, and that it would even be making an appearance on things like printers. But, what about something that matters, like a tablet? Well, according to Engadget, that's coming too. Read The Full Story

HP Files for PALMPAD Trademark, webOS Slate Gets a Name?

, Jul 19th 2010 Discuss [3]

A file for a trademark doesn't necessarily mean that a device is up and coming, or that the name itself will actually get used on a product released in the future. But, more often than not, that's exactly what it means. And while we were warming up to the name Hurricane for the future webOS tablet, we guess we could get used to saying PALMPAD. Thanks to a new USPTO trademark filing, HP is trying to make sure that no one else out there can get their hands on this obviously desired title. Read The Full Story

HP Showcases Flexible Displays, Hints at webOS Future

, Jul 12th 2010 Discuss [3]

There's been all sorts of speculation out there ever since HP acquired Palm. While plenty of folks out there would just be happy getting some new smartphones, there's even more who would love to see webOS on other things. Yes, tablets included. And while HP has said they're committed to exploring all of those options (smartphones included, thankfully), their own Research & Development department is obviously looking at other things as well. For example, while Phil McKinney of HP was on stage at MobileBeat 2010, he showcased something else HP is hard at work on: flexible displays. Read The Full Story

HP Hurricane webOS tablet leaks continue

, May 12th 2010 Discuss [0]

With HP still refusing to comment on the record about the fate of their Windows 7 slate, we're having to piece together their tablet plans from rumor, leaks and a little tantric chanting.  Latest to the speculation buffet is GottaBeMobile, who have heard from "two separate and reliable sources" that the Windows 7 tablet won't be released this coming summer, as HP instead focus their efforts on rushing out a webOS based slate codenamed the HP Hurricane.
