MeeGo eyes your BMW dashboard as GENIVI Alliance plan cross-platform ICE

A few weeks ago it was Microsoft in your Lexus; now it's MeeGo in your BMW.  The GENIVI Alliance - a nonprofit group focusing on in-vehicle entertainment (IVI) founded by BMW, GM, Intel and others - has decided to adopt MeeGo as the basis of their next release, using the Linux OS for its multimedia, navigation, internet and other abilities, together with its future integration with tablets, smartphones and netbooks.

Xbox 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard Update Goes Live

Xbox 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard Update Goes Live

So it went live today, I just downloaded it myself, the biggest feature, the ability to download Xbox Originals, or full games from the original Xbox. If you plan on making a habit out of it, I’d recommend upgrading to the 120GB Xbox HDD first, Fable was one of the first 7 titles available, and it was 3.3GB I believe, so it’ll eat up the 20 gig hard drive quick.

Google Q3 2014 Earnings hit and a miss

Google Q3 2014 Earnings hit and a miss

This afternoon Google announced their financial Q3 2014 earnings, this just a short while after Apple held their 2014 iPad event. CBS All Access, as they’re calling it, has quite a few caveats to get over before it’ll be sneaking up on any competing service. First, and perhaps most important, they’ll be continuing to show commercials during your viewing of shows even after you’ve paid for their service. Advertisements on your already paid-for service. What is this, Hulu Plus?!

This ultra-fast Internet may beat Google Fiber to your home

Google Fiber offers mind-boggling data transfer speeds, but fiber optics require a massive build-out. That need for digging keeps Fiber from rolling out quickly, and gives the competition a chance to catch up where Fiber hasn’t made its presence known. That Gigabit speed via Fiber and other services is impressive, but also a bit of overkill. New wireless tech from Mimosa brings us all back to Earth a bit, but still delivers on impressive data speeds you’re likely not currently getting.

Netflix stock plummets as HBO enters streaming race

Netflix stock plummets as HBO enters streaming race

This morning it was announced by HBO that they’d be offering up their own streaming service separate from Cable TV. That means Game of Thrones. It also means Girls, Boardwalk Empire, Veep, and a collection of AAA movies like Rush, Les Miserbles, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It also means that Netflix will have its first real competition since it went streaming itself all the way back in 2007.
