Halo: Spartan Assault for Xbox One lands December 24th

Halo: Spartan Assault for Xbox One will land on December 24th, Microsoft has confirmed, though Xbox 360 owners will have to wait into the new year to get their hands on the much-anticipated game. The title - which slots in-between the plots of Halo 3 and Halo 4 in the in-game universe - will be offered as a digital download for the next-gen console, after having gone on sale for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 users earlier in 2013, though there'll be some new tweaks to suit the Xbox One.

Halo series tops 46 million sales worldwide

It should be pretty obvious by this point that Halo is a huge franchise, but today Microsoft is giving us an idea of just how huge it actually is. According to the company, the Halo franchise has hit 46 million sales worldwide, which certainly isn't anything to scoff at. Those 46 million sales have generated a whopping $3 billion in revenue, so don't expect Microsoft to lay off the franchise anytime soon.

Halo Master Chief Collection downloads begin today 20GB day one download

In addition to the 45GB Blu-ray disk that you’ll have when you purchase The Master Chief Collection in the first place, 343 Industries have revealed that you'll need a 20GB day-one download patch. This game will be launching with no "cut corners to save disk space" - so says developer Dan Ayoub of 343 Industries. "This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in," adds Ayoub, "Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimize the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch."

Halo: Spartan Strike releasing cross-platform

The next Halo title will be a spiritual successor to Halo: Spartan Assault, but this time it’ll be coming with a single release schedule. In this case, it means you’ll be able to purchase it once, on one platform, and you’ll own it on the rest. You’ll be able to save the same in one location and pick up in another. This game will be released on Windows 8, Windows Phone, and through Steam (still on Windows) this December - very soon, that is.
