GoPro launches new HD Hero2 digital camera

I have had a GoPro Motorsports Hero HD camera for a long time now. This tiny camera supports HD resolutions and comes with a suction mount for attaching to a car. It's a very cool little camera, with a very confusing menu system. Each time I want to change resolutions I end up digging for the instructions. GoPro has announced a new version of this little camera in three styles called the HD Hero2.

Roku tipped to release two revised streaming boxes in April

Roku tipped to release two revised streaming boxes in April

It appears streaming video hardware maker Roku is close to releasing two new models, if a recent FCC filing is to be believed, that is. Fans shouldn't get their hopes up too high, however, as it appears these boxes are to be slight revisions of the existing Roku 2 and Roku 3 models. Other evidence is pointing towards a mid-April release, which means this is most likely a response to the Apple TV recently dropping to $69.

Vine rolls out support for looping 720p HD video

Vine rolls out support for looping 720p HD video

Vine’s looping videos are a mix of hilarious and silly. The service, like most social entities, is a healthy blend of all kinds of interesting stuff. With visual media, we tend to gravitate toward the more accurate representation of what is going on, and that’s typically HD. Starting today, Vine will become available in 720p for your ‘prosumer’ shots. Ahead of the update, Vine videos had a maximum definition of 420p, which is like standard TV. Viewing in 720p is available for all; full HD uploads, not so much.

If you've ever wanted a GoPro but couldn't part with the cash, then this may be your chance. Chinese company Xiaomi just unveiled their newest action-ready camera at MWC2015. Xiaomi's Yi camera will retail for only $64 USD, which is less than half the price of GoPro's basic Hero model which sells for $130 USD. It offers better technical specs than the GoPro Hero, but it is lacking in other respects. We'll take a look at they compare, and if we can even get our hands on a Yi cam stateside.

Panasonic Nubo wants to kill Dropcam with 4G

Panasonic Nubo wants to kill Dropcam with 4G

Streaming security cameras are great, until your WiFi connection dies and your virtual peephole gets cut off. Enter the Panasonic Nubo, throwing 4G LTE into the mixture along with some smart home ambitions. Panasonic isn’t aiming low, either, claiming the Nubo is a “Dropcam killer” from the outset, and aiming to out-perform everything on the Nest-owned streaming camera’s spec sheet. I caught up with the Panasonic Cameramanager team to find out why Nubo shouldn’t just be on your home office wall, but hitching a ride in your suitcase.

Inside the charming indie movie filmed entirely with iPhone 6

If you still needed convincing that smartphone cameras are more than capable of professional results, "Romance in NYC" may do the trick. Shot not only entirely from the a single character's point of view, but using nothing more than an iPhone 6 and a selection of apps and accessories, the 15 minute short was crowdfunded on Kickstarter in late 2014 and is now making the rounds of the festival circuit. I caught up with director Tristan Pope to find out what made him put down his pro-camera kit for a smartphone, how the iPhone 6 delivered in unexpected ways, and why he ended up wearing a GorillaPod like a Hannibal Lecter mask.
