The new OS went up for pre-order today, while a number of other Windows 8-related stories were popping up all over the place. For instance, we found out that the marketing campaign for Windows 8 cost Microsoft a whopping $1.5 billion, and a collection of HP computers were spotted running Windows 8 on the show floor of one Best Buy store in Minnesota.

Motorola denies crazy royalty demands

Motorola Mobility has struck back at Microsoft accusations that it is demanding ridiculous patent licensing fees, dismissing allegations that it asked for $4bn a year to use technology in Windows and other platforms. "That's simply not true" Motorola's VP of intellectual property Kirk Dailey told AllThingsD, "we never asked for anything like that." In fact, Dailey insists, Motorola's actual patent fee requests are 45x less than figures Microsoft quoted.

LG Optimus Note Revealed as group’s 4th dual-core Android [Video]

As a manufacturer, LG is no stranger to dual-core Android goodness, having been the first (or certainly one of the first) groups to bring more than one core to a smartphone with the LG G2x (also called the Optimus 2X internationally), then the LG G-Slate (a dual-core tablet), finally the Optimus 3D (aka the Thrill 4G) to the Android world. Now they appear very much to be coming back with a slide-out keyboard on a device called the LG Optimus Note and their 2-1 and possibly 3-1 favorite for dual-core processors, the NVIDIA Tegra 2 running inside.
