Google Glass driver pleads not guilty to digital distraction

The first Google Glass Explorer issued a traffic citation for distracted driving has pleaded not guilty, arguing that the wearable was not in fact active or even covered by the citation code while she was in motion. Cecilia Abadie was stopped by the California Highway Patrol in October 2013 for speeding, but had a further citation added on, USA Today reports, for a reason more normally associated with in-dashboard video screens being active during driving. In a San Diego court today, Abadie pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Google Glass faces driver-distraction ban in UK over safety fears

Google Glass is likely to face a ban for in-car use in the UK, with government regulators supposedly concerned that the wearable will be too distracting to drivers. The decision, still yet to be made official, could put use of Glass - which offers a driver navigation mode, among other features - in the same "careless driving" category as using a cellphone while behind the wheel, Stuff reports.

Google Maps-driven Map Dive 3D-tracking hands-on

This week the folks at the development studio known as Instrument have brought a virtual reality demonstration to Google I/O 2013, complete with a multi-display drop from the upper atmosphere down toward the earth in freefall. What this demonstration consisted of was seven 1080p displays, each of them run by their own Ubuntu PC working with a full-screen version of Chrome version 25. A motion tracker works to track the user, their arms, and the angle at which they're standing - or leaning and falling, as it were.

Google unifies 15GB of shared storage for Gmail, Drive and Google+

Google has announced that it'll be changing the way it does cloud storage across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google+. Instead of each service having it's own allotted amount of space. All three will be joined together and will share a pool of 15GB of cloud storage space, allowing Google Drive users to essentially have more free space than the previous 5GB that was originally offered.

Google “Save to Drive” button wants to bypass your desktop

Google has further tightened the integration between browser and cloud, launching a new "Save to Drive" button that allows files to be sent straight to Google Drive from websites, assuming they've enabled the functionality. The new feature avoids the hassle of downloading a file to a local computer and then uploading it again to the user's Drive storage, particularly handy if you're using a public machine.
