NVIDIA push Tegra 2 for Superphones plus Tegra Zone app

Tegra 2 isn't new, but NVIDIA is hoping that 2011 will be the year that the dual-core mobile processor comes into its own. Last we heard of "superphones" it was Google trying to brand their Nexus One as such; now NVIDIA is seizing on the title to describe devices packing multi-core CPUs, speedy GPUs and frugal power requirements, the first device being LG's Optimus 2X. To help users pair up superphones with apps worthy of Tegra 2, NVIDIA is also launching its own software tool.

Acer has launched a set of new laptops using Intel's 2nd-gen Core 2011 range of processors. The Acer Aspire 8950 range is the company's new flagship, with the Aspire 8950G-9839 sitting at the top with Intel's Core i7-2630Q processor, ATI Radeon 6850 graphics and 8GB of RAM as standard. It has an 18.4-inch 1080p HD display, Blu-ray, a 750GB HDD and a spare second internal drive bay.

Mainstream and SOHO laptops generally aren't especially inspiring, but at least Lenovo has tried to differentiate the new V Series machines with slick aluminum casings and covers, and 21mm-thick chassis. The Lenovo IdeaPad V370, V470 and V570 hit the 13.3-, 14- and 15.6-inch screen sizes respectively (each running at 1366 x 768), paired with up to Intel Core i7 second-gen Sandy Bridge CPUs and up to 8GB of RAM.
