Acer Aspire 8950G-9839 gets Core i7-2630Q in Aspire Sandy Bridge refresh

Acer has launched a set of new laptops using Intel's 2nd-gen Core 2011 range of processors. The Acer Aspire 8950 range is the company's new flagship, with the Aspire 8950G-9839 sitting at the top with Intel's Core i7-2630Q processor, ATI Radeon 6850 graphics and 8GB of RAM as standard. It has an 18.4-inch 1080p HD display, Blu-ray, a 750GB HDD and a spare second internal drive bay.

Lenovo IdeaPad V370, V470 and V570 push Sandy Bridge to the mainstream

Mainstream and SOHO laptops generally aren't especially inspiring, but at least Lenovo has tried to differentiate the new V Series machines with slick aluminum casings and covers, and 21mm-thick chassis. The Lenovo IdeaPad V370, V470 and V570 hit the 13.3-, 14- and 15.6-inch screen sizes respectively (each running at 1366 x 768), paired with up to Intel Core i7 second-gen Sandy Bridge CPUs and up to 8GB of RAM.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z570, Z470 & Z370 multimedia notebooks get Sandy Bridge

Lenovo's updated Z Series multimedia notebooks have had in injection of Intel's latest Sandy Bridge processors, with the IdeaPad Z570, Z470 and Z370 built around 15.6-, 14- and 13.3-inch displays respectively and a choice of Core i3, i5 or i7 CPUs. The IdeaPad Z470 and Z370 come with eye-catching fuchsia, sky blue or dark brown transparent covers, while the Z570 is a little more sensible with an Accutype chiclet keyboard and metallic-effect casing.

"We don't know how to make a $500 computer that's not a piece of junk,” he told investors back in 2008, and so the new 2010 MacBook Air is neither of those things. Instead, it's a $999+ slice of instant-on notebook and, if you believe the hyperbole, pulls together the best of Apple's MacBook range and their best-selling iPad. Dell XPS multimedia laptops outed: Optimus, 3DTV Play & WiDi

Dell has outed its latest multimedia laptops, in the shape of the newly refreshed Dell XPS range.  Available in 14-, 15.6- and 17-inch sizes, the new XPS notebooks pack a choice of Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors and Optimus-compatible NVIDIA GeForce 400M GPUs.  Interestingly, they'll also be the first notebooks to ship with HD webcams that are Skype-certified.
