Get cookin’ with the XM42; handheld flamethrower gets crowdfunded

The XM42 claims to be the world's first commercially available flamethrower, which means that almost anyone will be able to buy the handheld incendiary device. We have to wonder, is that really a good thing? The XM42 flamethrower is gearing up for production via the crowdfunding site IndieGogo. Honestly, it looks dangerous, but it's designed to be much safer than any homemade improvised device a teenager or doomsday-prepper would make. Even a "safe" flamethrower is still dangerous. ArcLighter replaces your lighter’s flame with a stun gun

ArcLighter replaces your lighter’s flame with a stun gun

A regular lighter is, by all accounts, exceedingly archaic. A more modern twist on that old technology are electric lighters, which have batteries that heat coils to produce an area generally hot enough to light a paper or candle. ArcLighter is the next evolution in lighter technology, however, working somewhat like a miniature stun gun to create an electric arc that ignites whatever is passed through it. There are some obvious benefits to this, including the fact that it can be recharged and that it doesn't go out in windy conditions.

According to Spondoolies-Tech, which made the hardware, the data center's wiring wasn't up to code.

Samsung’s newest induction range uses LED “flames”

If you've ever used an induction stove or cooktop, you know they mostly only have good things to offer: it's less likely you'll burn your dinner because heat is more evenly distributed, and you don't have to worry about someone touching a hot surface and being burned. Their biggest downside is the same one that comes with any technology that is both silent and invisible, however: it is hard to tell anything about what is going on due to the lack of visual cues. Samsung has used a method to get around this that is definitely in the realm of "futuristic".
