HTC One Max toys with fingerprint sensor in leaked images

HTC One Max toys with fingerprint sensor in leaked images

While it's not entirely unlikely that the HTC One Max (still not confirmed to exist in and of itself) would be delivered with a fingerprint scanner aboard, images appearing today appear slightly less finalized than past iterations. What we're seeing in the HTC One Max thus far is a test phone, one aimed at the "phablet" range of devices also being attacked at the moment by the Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and the Samsung Galaxy Mega - a 6.3-inch phone released internationally and just today confirmed for several USA-based carriers. Today's HTC One Max leak includes several pogo-pins for docked charging and a black block suggested by photo source ePrice as a fingerprint reading sensor.

iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner may be this year’s show-stopping feature

Where with the iPhone 4S came Apple's re-application of the personal assistant software Siri, it's been re-tipped this week that the iPhone 5S will be coming with a fingerprint scanner. This word comes from future-telling analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, a fellow known for his prophesy-telling tips on soon-to-exist Apple products. This suggestion of a fingerprint scanner up front of the iPhone 5S lines up well with Apple's acquisition of Authentec just over a year ago.

Apple targets fingerprint scanners with incoming AuthenTec purchase

It would appear that Apple is really, really interested in implementing fingerprint sensor technology with its devices. Last month, Apple announced that it had agreed to buy AuthenTec for $356 million, and today we're getting a better idea of the events leading up to this purchase. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday (uncovered by The Next Web), Apple's offer to purchase the company came when the iPhone maker decided it didn't want to enter a commercial agreement with AuthenTec during talks of a licensing deal.

Apple Patent Seeks to do Away with Fingerprints

Apple Patent Seeks to do Away with Fingerprints

Take a look at the Fingerprint Portal here on SlashGear and you'll see quite plainly that when we review devices, the subject comes up often, especially when it comes to displays. Apple knows this, and with their new FCC filed plans they appear to be seeking to do away with them. Apple here is using an oleophobic coating to keep fingerprints out of mobile world, a direct liquid application called Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and should it work the way they're describing it AND should it make its way to the real world, we may soon have a tougher time judging who has held a phone based on prints alone.

NEC shows off world’s first contactless hybrid fingerprint/finger vein scanner

NEC shows off world’s first contactless hybrid fingerprint/finger vein scanner

Years ago I had a notebook that used a fingerprint scanner to log me into the machine rather than having to type. The problem was that the swipe never grabbed the fingerprint the first time out and I always ended up having to swipe repeatedly until I gave up and typed my password. Fingerprint scanners have come a long way since those early offerings and one of the more interesting new fingerprint scanners is the HS100-10.
