Why a Facebook phone based on ads has no future

Why a Facebook phone based on ads has no future

This week we're hotly debating whether or not a Facebook phone would make sense to create for the recently public company, coming today to some interesting Google Advertising statistics that say no, Facebook does not have a chance. The factoids we're using here today come from the Google vs Oracle case because therein lies the only real look we've ever had at Google's profit margin for Android. In the papers presented in that case it was shown that Android generated advertising revenue for Google to the tune of $9 per device in the year 2010 - this statistic alone should be evidence enough for you to say whether or not Facebook could realistically create a smartphone based on advertising revenue alone.

A great Facebook app can’t beat a true Facebook Phone

A great Facebook app can’t beat a true Facebook Phone

Every few months, the Facebook Phone saga resurfaces with talk of a dedicated social device range, and as night follows day comes the suggestion that "a great Facebook app is all they need." All things being equal, it's a good argument: rather than step outside of the comfort zone of software development and attempt to figure the complexities of radio chipsets, mobile processors and carrier deals, Zuckerberg & Co. could focus on keeping the existing Facebook apps at the top of their game across iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Problem is, in the mobile market today, all things are certainly not equal.

HTC-made Facebook phones in Q3 insist insiders

Perennial rumors of a Facebook phone have reawakened, with industry sources claiming HTC is producing a device for the social network as a way of reestablishing industry heft after Samsung's rise in prominence. Unlike existing Facebook-enabled handsets, such as HTC's own ChaCha and Salsa, the new Facebook phone will "have a platform exclusive to Facebook" DigiTimes reports, and include all the functionality currently enjoyed on the desktop version.

Facebook Phone could break through site’s social mobile limbo

Facebook Phone could break through site’s social mobile limbo

Facebook's mobile strategy faces renewed attention IPO excitement cools, with the company citing cellphone users as a huge source of potential growth though warning it is currently at the mercy of Apple and Android. According to Facebook's SEC filing, 425m active users accessed the social network while mobile in December 2011 alone, more than half of the total number of active users in fact. The figures are likely to renew speculation that Facebook will try to make its own play for the smartphone market.

The Facebook Phone may be finally coming

The Facebook Phone may be finally coming

Earlier this year, you may still remember the HTC Status and HTC Salsa from AT&T, the pair of "Facebook phones" that weren't exactly up to their titular status. But just hours ago, reporters over at All Things Digital claim that social-networking company itself is working with a cell phone manufacturer to build, yes, a very Facebook phone, code-named Buffy (from the vampire-killer television series, for some reason). And most likely not one with just a tiny little Facebook button on the front.

Motorola EX225 Facebook phone spotted

Motorola EX225 Facebook phone spotted

Looks like it's Motorola's turn to out a Facebook phone, with the EX225 spotted crossing through the Bluetooth SIG complete with a QWERTY keyboard and a dedicated button for the social network. Packing 3G, a 3-megapixel camera and a 2.4-inch LCD TFT display, OS isn't specified but there are no obvious Android buttons. That suggests it may be a more mundane platform underneath the Motorola skin, such as BREW.

Facebook Phone Contact List Is NOT New and Can Be Deleted Easily

This week Facebook users across the nation have been having a heart attack and grabbing their tinfoil hats in horror over what they saw as an almost science-fiction-like Facebook feature they believed to have just crept up on them to grab them in the night: a list of phone numbers. As you may or may not know, Facebook has had your phone number ever since you first entered it in when you signed up for the site. Didn't sign with your phone number in the first place? Did you download a Facebook app of basically any kind on any sort of smartphone in the past? If you did, you agreed to have your mobile phone number shared with all of your friends.

HTC Status Announced on AT&T Officially – HTC’s Facebook phone comes to America!

Perhaps you've heard of the cool, fresh, and QWERTY toting HTC device known as the ChaCha, aka the Facebook phone whose close cousin is the no-keys HTC Salsa, another device we expect to be coming to the states soon? We've heard of it too, and in fact my associate Chris Davies over there in the Euro side of the world has had a real good look at it in a full review. Well guess what? HTC's now got this device coming out on AT&T for real, USA style, in a style that's dedicated to Facebook in more ways than one. Check out that physical Facebook button and head in for the changes.
