No Transformer Prime 3G/UMTS version says ASUS Germany

While the ASUS Transformer Prime has finally hit the SlashGear test bench and - in a few days time - store shelves, for some the package won't be complete until a 3G version of the Tegra 3 tablet is available; unfortunately, that's looking increasingly unlikely. Despite suggestions last month that ASUS would consider a 3G Transformer Prime if the market demanded it, the company's German division has thrown cold water over the prospect, claiming the minimal demand for UMTS 3G models means they're not going to be produced.

Asus Transformer Prime available for pre-order at Best Buy now

The next most powerful Android device on earth is now available for pre-order from Best Buy, that being the Asus Transformer Prime, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor toting 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet. This device is available for pre order in two forms: one with a gray back, the other with a champagne back. Both models have 32GB of data storage built-in with a microSD card slot to expand by an additional 32GB if you wish. They've also got the official champagne-colored keyboard dock and a mystery portable dock which we must assume is the gray-colored keyboard dock, both up for $149.99 and at pre-order status as well.

ASUS Transformer Prime gets ICS video tease

NVIDIA has tossed a new video up onto YouTube that shows one of the NVIDIA folks walking through a few features of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the Asus Transformer Prime tablet. You can see the video for yourself at the bottom of this story. The demos are interesting, even if a bit brief. The Transformer Prime packs in the Tegra 3 quad core processor and will be the first tablet to land with that Tegra 3 hiding inside.

Asus Transformer Prime tablet page goes live

Early this month the Asus Transformer Prime TF201 tablet was announced for the first time. The official page on the Asus site is now up with no hint at a ship date. The tablet sounds nice with a Tegra 3 processor under the hood and a very thin design. The tablet portion is only 8.3mm thick and weighs in at 586g. It can be paired with a keyboard dock that turns it into a netbook-like device as well or used as the tablet alone.

Lenovo LePad K2 Tegra 3 tablet benchmarks look to take on ASUS

We're all well aware by now that the first quad-core Android tablet in the world will indeed by the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, complete with NVIDIA Tegra 3 - but here comes the second, a Lenovo device that this week has appeared in benchmark tests showing its upcoming might. What we've got so far for specifications on this yet to be formally announced device is a 10.1-inch display, NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-core processor, and indeed the code-name LePad K2. While this may end up becoming the real release name of the tablet, we'll just have to wait and see, as believe it or not, ASUS still has the only announced and official device out there thus far with Tegra 3 onboard.

Lenovo is reportedly readying an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet for launch by the end of 2011, running Google's new platform on NVIDIA's 1.6GHz Tegra 3 quadcore chipset. This week we both saw the official announcement of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime and the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor that would power it - and today we get a special treat from ZTOP: a hands-on treatment complete with a size comparison to the comparatively hefty iPhone 4 (or the iPhone 4S). What kind of comparison is that, you might ask, why compare a tablet to a smartphone?
