ASUS Eee Top ET1602 launched

As promised, ASUS have held a glittering launch for the new Eee Top touchscreen all-in-one desktop PC.  Despite having to suffer the indignities of being poked at by models with surprisingly long nails, the Eee Top held up well; Engadget China report that it feels as sturdy as most other EeePC machines, and that the touchscreen is responsive and doesn't require more than the most casual of grazes.

Eee PC battery chargers on sale

A good idea doesn't have to cost a fortune, and nor does it have to be huge.  In keeping with the Eee PC's diminutive size, Expansys are offering a range of clip-on battery chargers for the ASUS netbooks that can keep a spare power-pack juiced up without needing it to be fitted to the netbook itself.

Five second boot mod for ASUS Eee PC

Five second boot mod for ASUS Eee PC

Netbooks would be a whole lot more believable as companion devices if they switched on as fast as, say, a smartphone or PDA.  However the combination of Intel's Atom and generally wheezing specs tend to make starting-up - or resuming from standby - measure more around the one minute mark than anything less.  Two Intel engineers might be looking to change all that, though; at a recent Linux conference, they demonstrated an ASUS Eee PC that could boot to a Fedora desktop in just five seconds.

Eee PC extended battery suggests 8-10hrs for 901, 1000 & 1000H

If you're wondering what that unsightly growth is on the back of this Eee PC 901, it's actually the official ASUS extended battery.  But before you dismiss it as too cumbersome or, taking the weight of the 901 up to around 1.2kg, too heavy, picture this: 8 to 10 hours of continuous use from a single charge.

ASUS confirm dual-core Atom Eee PCs this year, bigger SSD & HDD

After a leaked ASUS slide confirmed the Eee range would reach 23 different units, company president Jerry Shen has spoken about some of the upcoming models and the segments he expects the Eee PC to occupy.  According to Shen, two new categories - Ultimate and Pro Fashion - will launch this year, each with dual-core Atom processors and increased storage.  A choice of 120GB HDD or 32GB SSD was suggested.

Touchscreen Eee PC 901 mod

Working on the principle that there can never be too many touchscreen Eee variants, jkkmobile has a new tutorial for adding such a panel to the ASUS Eee PC 901.  The 8.9-inch touchscreen panel itself costs around $70 on eBay (plus shipping); then it's just a case of opening up the 901, locating power and USB connections, and carefully squeezing everything in.

ASUS Eee PC 901 Linux Edition Review

ASUS Eee PC 901 Linux Edition Review

If the ASUS Eee 900 basically amounted to a larger-screened version of the 7-inch original, then the Eee 901 marks its graduation into a distinct model.  Packing Intel's latest 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, in place of the 900's Celeron 900MHz, ASUS could reasonably have left the rest of the notebook the same and simply added a little to the price.  Thankfully they've subjected the 901 to a mild degree of fettling, tweaking case and controls and making for a markedly more attractive proposition.  ASUS sent over the Windows version of the 901; check out what exactly impressed us after the cut.

Eee 1000H unboxed & Vista Ultimate installed: performance surprisingly good

We already know how much it'll cost (read: plenty) and that its smaller 901 sibling holds up well performance-wise, but so far in-the-wild footage of ASUS' Eee PC 1000H have been pretty rare.  Having gone on sale in Taiwan last Wednesday, TweakTown managed to find someone with stock and have shot an unboxing video together with a whole lot of first-impressions.  True to their name, they've also had the chance to do some OS tweaking.
