Apple MacBook Pro 2011 official

, Feb 24th 2011 Discuss [5]

The new Apple MacBook Pro range is official, and it’s quite the star line-up. The entire 13-inch, 15-inch and 17-inch spread has been updated, with Intel’s Sandy Bridge 2011 Core processors across the board. Apple has also cast out NVIDIA, replacing GeForce GPUs with AMD’s Radeon graphics on the 15- and 17-inch machines. The 13-inch, meanwhile, makes do with Intel’s integrated graphics alone. Perhaps most interesting is the addition of Apple’s new Thunderbolt connector, based on Intel’s Light Peak technology and promising up to 10Gbps data transfer speeds. Full details after the cut.

ASUS Eee Note EA800 gets video unboxing; user-guide goes live

, Dec 13th 2010 Discuss [3]

ASUS' Eee Note EA800 note-taking tablet is a curious device, opting for monochrome LCD instead of the usual frugal E Ink display, and positioned by the company as a resolutely niche, companion device rather than a converged do-anything slate. NetbookNews have snagged one of the first, managed to get ASUS to re-flash it with English firmware rather than Chinese, and then wasted no time before unboxing and demonstrating it on video. Atom N550 benchmarks suggest doubled performance over N450

, Jun 16th 2010 Discuss [2]

It seems ASUS were playing silly beggars at Computex this year, with their demo Eee PC 1015PN and 1015N netbooks both labelled as using Intel Atom N475 processors whereas actually they packed Intel's newer dual-core Atom N550 chips.  NotebookItalia spotted the discrepancy - the correct processors showed up in the system integration - and promptly ran some benchmarks to see quite how much of a boost the N550 brings over previous generation netbooks.  The good news is that the N550 bests not only the N450 but some Intel CULV chips.
