The iOS developer's best friend might not be a new iMac or even a Mac Pro, when looking to create Retina Display apps for the new iPad, but in fact hardware with the far less fashionable Dell logo. Apple's Phil Schiller joked during the new iPad keynote yesterday that the 2048 x 1536 tablet actually had more pixels than the floor to ceiling presentation screen behind him; however, that resolution presents a significant issue for iOS app developers, since none of Apple's own OS X hardware supports the new iPad's full resolution.

Ultrabooks have undoubtedly been the star of CES 2012 this week – heck, we counted up the top contenders and found almost a dozen – but the slimline notebooks’ challenge is more than just shedding pounds and squeezing in as big a display as possible. For all Intel’s hard work pushing the trademark, and its manufacturer partners’ efforts coming up with their own slimline machines, the biggest threat to ultrabook success wasn’t even shown at CES. CES 2012 Ultrabook Round-Up
If CES last year was dominated by tablets, CES 2012 has been the year of the ultrabook. Intel’s ultraportable notebook trademark had already picked up late in 2011, but it’s the Consumer Electronics Show this week where the big guns like Dell and Samsung came out to give it some real momentum. If Intel has its way, one of the following machines will be lightly weighing on your shoulder over the next few months.
Intel tipped to work on WiGig wireless docking stations for Ultrabooks
I mentioned last week that Intel was said to be working on a new wired docking device for the Ultrabook lien that is tipped to be using Thunderbolt. This week we have another new rumor that points to Intel working on a second docking system for Ultraboosk, and this one is wireless. The new docking station uses WiGig tech that offers more bandwidth than 802.11n.

T-Mobile USA Q1 2011: Income dives as nearly 1m subscribers jump ship
T-Mobile USA has announced its Q1 2011 results, and the numbers don't look great. Net customer losses hit 99,000 while revenue flatlined from Q1 2010 at $4.63bn; however, despite ARPU (average revenue per user) remaining steady at $46, overall income dived from $362m in Q1 2010 to $135m in Q1 2011.

Apple’s Big Success: Devaluing Everything
It was while writing SlashGear’s Nintendo 3DS review that it really struck me, the disparity between “traditional” software – whether that’s for your desktop or a game for your console – and the new “app” ecosystem is Apple’s biggest accomplishment. Where once computer software was a $40+ boxed product – and where 3DS games, and those for other consoles, are still $40+ boxed cartridges – it’s now a $0.99 download, instant gratification at a cost that won’t wrinkle your conscience. Tech is cheap, apps are throwaway, and Apple is to blame.
