Dell Makes Official Statement on Venue Pro Delay

Earlier today, we reported that Dell was having some trouble meeting demand for their Venue Pro Windows Phone 7 smartphone. The result was that people who had pre-ordered the device were seeing their expected ship dates get changed, most of which were being displayed as January 6th, 2011. Obviously this wasn't sitting well with potential customers, and now it looks like Dell is coming forward and trying to stave off some of those malicious thoughts. There is a delay in production, but Dell says they are trying.

Intel expecting 35 Atom tablets in 2011; Dell’s Intel Android plans quietly deleted

Intel has announced manufacturer partners intending to produce 35 Atom-based tablets in 2011, with systems running Windows, Android and MeeGo all on the cards. CEO Paul Otellini confirmed the news at a tech conference this week, describing the two versions of Atom - Oak Trail and Moorestown - as targeted at Windows and Android/MeeGo tablets respectively. However, Intel has also been modifying its slide-deck since the presentation, removing mention of Dell from the Android-on-Atom column.

While the initial stock of Dell's Windows Phone 7-based Venue Pro may have been plagued with severe WiFi connectivity issues (like not being able to connect to secured WiFi locations), that's obviously not stopping Dell from getting on the bandwagon and finally giving the device an official launch, like it deserves. Dell's Venue Pro may be building a small following of eager QWERTY WP7 users, and the company's Streak MID/phone hybrid had headline appeal, but the company's mobile aspirations are generally proving tougher to achieve. File this firmly in the rumor category for the moment, but according to StreakSmart's anonymous sources, Dell is readying a second-gen Dell Streak for release in March 2011. According to the information - which a Dell rep apparently shared during an internal briefing - the tablet/phone hybrid is internally codenamed "Opus One" and will keep the 5-inch form-factor of the current Streak, but update the screen to a higher resolution panel and the processor to a dual-core chip.
