Dell Inspiron Duo price slash cuts convertible by 27%

Dell's Inspiron Duo has seen its price slashed, with the official Microsoft store knocking more than a quarter off the convertible netbook. Now down to $399, the Inspiron Duo packs a dual-core Atom N550 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard-drive but, most interestingly, a rotating 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 multitouch display that can be flipped between regular notebook and slate orientations.

Dell Inspiron Duo official: $549 from early December [Video]

Dell has come clean on the Dell Inspiron Duo convertible hybrid netbook/tablet, which will begin shipping in the first week of December 2010. The 10.1-inch tablet will kick off at $549, which gets you Intel's dual-core Atom N550 processor paired with 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard-drive and Broadcom's Crystal HD video accelerator; the display, meanwhile, is a 1,366 x 768 capacitive touchscreen.

Dell's Inspiron Duo screen-flipping tablet could launch as early as next week, if CNET's sources are to be believed, though hard specifications for the 10-inch hybrid netbook are still unclear. Powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor, and running Windows 7, the Inspiron Duo's eye-catching trick is its rotating screen: the netbook can be opened and used with a regular laptop form-factor, or the multitouch panel swivelled around and the lid closed, turning it into a slate.

After its brief demo on-stage at IDF 2010 earlier this week, Dell's rotating Inspiron Duo netbook/tablet has stepped out for a slightly longer preview.  The company is still keeping most details - and the prototype hardware, for that matter - close to its chest, refusing to discuss battery life or pricing, but at least we now have some close-up video of that slick converting mechanism.

Dell Inspiron DUO flipping tablet/netbook wows at IDF 2010 [Video]

Dell has surprised here at IDF 2010 by previewing their upcoming Inspiron DUO tablet/netbook hybrid device, with a rotating touchscreen display.  Details on the tablet are in short supply, but Dell did reveal that it runs Windows 7 Premium.  Normally the display is on the outside of the netbook lid, allowing it to be used as a slate, but when the lid is opened the screen rotates inward so as to be visible as a regular notebook.
