BMW Launches DriveNow Car Sharing Program

BMW has partnered with rental car company Sixt for its own car sharing service called DriveNow. The two German companies will be providing a “premium” car sharing service with a fleet of BMW’s sub brand BMW i and MINI vehicles. The service is open to all drivers, but if you’re between 18 and 21 you’ll have to take an extra driving safety test before you can use a use a car. Read The Full Story

FarmVille credit & exclusive items added to American Express reward scheme

American Express has announced a new partnership with online gaming company Zynga, which will allow credit card users to swap their membership reward points for FarmVille points, exclusive items or credit in other online games. 100 membership points gets you a dollar's worth of in-game credit; however there are also "exclusive" virtual items, including a dashing purple cow for 540 points, which can only be secured via American Express. Intel Tunnel Creek Atom SoC debuts

Intel have outed their latest Atom based SoC, Tunnel Creek, at IDF 2010 this week, a combined chipset intended for embedded applications, straightforward consumer electronics and making previously dumb devices - like printers - "intelligent".  Tunnel Creek takes a standard Atom processor core, complete with display controller, GPU, memory controller and audio, and allows manufacturers and OEMs to link to it directly via a standard PCI Express interface; according to Intel the GPU packs 50-percent more graphics performance than existing Menlow chipsets. Lexus announce HS 250h and LF-Ch Concept hybrids

Lexus have announced not one but two hybrids, though we have to say there's only one of them that we'd like to find in the SlashGear garage.  The 2010 Lexus HS 250h, shown here, is the bread & butter of the range, a four-door saloon capable of 35mpg and various combinations of hybrid power.  Meanwhile the more exciting model is the Lexus LF-Ch Concept, which you can see after the cut, and which is headed to Europe to show that hybrids don't have to be slow. Acer Aspire 8930G: Quad-Core CPU, Blu-ray & 1080p

At their CeBIT press conference today, Acer unveiled the Aspire 8930G, the first notebook to use Intel’s new Core 2 Quad Mobile Processor.  The Acer Aspire 8930G has an 18.4-inch 1920 x 1080 Full-HD 220-nit display, optional DVB-T digital TV tuner, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and up to two 320GB hard-drives.

Dash, makers of the highly-esteemed Dash Express GPS device, have announced they will be reorganizing their business model to concentrate on software and system licencing rather than hardware.  In the process, fifty employees (out of a total workforce of around eighty) have been made redundant.  The move follows Dash's struggle to find sufficient buyers for the Express GPS to make it economically feasible; it seems that even with a massive sale at Amazon it wasn't enough to compete in the current GPS race to the bottom line.
