Compulab fit-PC3 squeezes AMD APU into tiny computer

Tiny computer specialists Compulab have followed up on their Tegra 2 based palm-sized PC, the Trim Slice, with a new model using AMD's low-power APU. The fit-PC3 is a 16 x 15 x 2.5 cm fanless box packing a choice of single-core or dual-core processors running at up 10 1.6GHz, with as much as 8GB of DDR3 memory, two eSATA ports, HDMI, DisplayPort and gigabit ethernet connectivity, along with a bevy of USB ports.

Trim Slice Tegra 2 ultra-compact desktop gets video demo

Just when our eyes had glazed over at the Tegra 2 torrent of tablets and smartphones, along came Compulab with its Trim Slice ultra-compact desktop PC using the NVIDIA chipset. Packing the 1080p-capable SoC in a tiny, fanless metal enclosure, complete with HDMI and Dual-Link DVI ports for twin displays, 1GB of RAM, WiFi b/g/n and gigabit ethernet, we instantly started imagining places for it under our HDTV or tucked in the corner of our desk. ARMDevices caught up with Compulab this week as they brought the Trim Slice to its first trade show; check out the video demo and more details after the cut.

Welcome to this week's edition of the SlashGear Week in Review! If you are a PC hardware geek an AMD spokesman causally showed off an unannounced video card on Monday called the HD 6990. The card has dual GPUs and should be very fast. We heard a bit of early detail on the PSP2 from Nikkei that claimed the new portable would have an OLED touchscreen, 3G and a new CPU. That would make for a very impressive portable indeed.

Utilite mini-PC crosses ARM with Linux and/or Android

In the Utilite mini-PC, if you're all about working with open-source software, small form factor, and more ports than you know what to do with, the team at Compulab may have created just the monster you're looking for. This week the creators of the Utilite have announced not only that the machine itself exists, but that they'll be selling it in different configurations starting at under $100 USD. The smallest of these works with a Freescale i.M6 single-core processor and will be aiming to be just about as basic as possible.
