iTunes 10.1.2 released, supports CDMA iPhone 4

Apple has released iTunes 10.1.2 for the Mac and PC, adding CDMA support in the latest update.  This is necessary for those who plan on buying Verizon’s iPhone 4 and have it sync properly with iTunes. The release didn’t specifically mention Verizon and only referred to an “iPhone 4 (CDMA model)” which has people speculating whether other CDMA carriers for the iPhone 4 may be in the near future.

Apple is believed to have ordered in the region of 12-15m CDMA iPhone handsets in 2011, with sources in Taiwan claiming that strong demand drove that number up from a cautious 10m. According to DigiTimes, the CDMA iPhone 4 orders - which will head to Verizon in the US initially - have recently begun shipping; Verizon will offer the fourth-gen smartphone to existing subscribers from February 3, then to new customers from February 10 2011.

A leaked internal Verizon screenshot tipping an incoming "Iconic Device" has got the CDMA iPhone flag-wavers out in force again, though the carrier's wording is still suitably inconclusive.  TUAW were sent the picture, which seemingly promises Verizon employees that as of November 9th they'll be able to offer customers pre-sales for a "high demand" handset.

The iPhone 4 launch gave us little respite from the persistent rumors that Apple is working on a CDMA version of the smartphone for Verizon, and sure enough here's another set of mysterious "sources from component makers" tipping imminent EVDO iPhones.  According to DigiTimes, Pegatron is currently manufacturing CDMA iPhone 4 units in their Shanghai production facilities, with the handsets set to begin shipping to Apple in Q4 2010.

Verizon iPhone 4 rumors flourish as analyst tips CDMA manufacture in Dec 2010

The CDMA iPhone 4 rumors continue to circulate, with Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro latest to speculate on the Verizon version of the Apple smartphone.  According to his latest investor note, his checks with overseas suppliers indicate Apple is on track to produce three million CDMA iPhone 4 handsets in December, with a launch likely to take place in early 2011.

Inside the familiar metal casing beats a new processor, the Apple A7, making the iPhone 5s the first smartphone - and iOS 7 the first smartphone platform - to transition to 64-bit; the home button has lost its square sigil but gained a biometric sensor that might be the first to actually convince owners to use it; and the camera may still be 8-megapixels in resolution on paper, but those pixels - and the way Apple uses them - are quantifiably better than before.
