Canon EOS 5D Mark III update brings uncompressed HD video next year

Canon has announced it will enable uncompressed HDMI video output on the EOS 5D Mark III in an upcoming firmware update, in response to specific requests from video pros enamored with the DSLR. The incoming update, due April 2013, will output high-definition uncompressed video data (YCbCr 4:2:2, 8 bit) from the HDMI port to an external recorder. There'll also be a tweak to autofocus performance.

It's not just the new EOS 5D Mark III that Canon has today, the photography company has also outed a range of new accessories for the DSLR including the first wireless-enabled pro Speedlite. The Sppedlite Transmitter 600EX-RT uses Canon's new radio-based wireless flash tech, and can control up to five flash groups from up to 30m away. Meanwhile, there's a new battery grip for the Mark III, a WiFi file transmitter, GPS puck and more.

Canon freezes EOS 5D Mark III shipments [Updated]

Canon has frozen shipments of the EOS 5D Mark III in Canada and the UK, after deeming the light leak problem with the camera is too serious to go uncorrected. "Canon has identified that when the LCD top light is switched on in very dark situations, the displayed exposure value may change on the EOS 5D Mark III" the company admitted last week; now it has confirmed that it will be freezing supplies until the fault can be rectified.
