Camangi WebStation Review

, Apr 16th 2010 Discuss [0]

The Camangi WebStation was announced back when Android-based tablets were still a novelty; since then we’ve seen the iPad launch, various other tablets attempt to grab our attention, and read a few pretty dire reviews of the company’s first-gen offering. On the SlashGear test bench today, then, is the “new upgraded version”of the WebStation; at $275 it’s around half the price of Apple’s tablet, but is it double the value? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Camangi Webstation first-impressions: sluggish CPU and poor app selection [Updated]

, Dec 29th 2009 Discuss [0]

Having seen the first unboxing video of the Camangi Webstation yesterday, initial impressions are beginning to filter through.  Unfortunately, they're not all positive; Laptop spent some time with the 7-inch Android slate and while build quality and design are just as good as we'd heard, actually performance is less impressive.  They describe the Webstation as "sluggish", with the 624MHz Marvell processor "taking a few seconds longer to load apps and web pages or respond to button presses than we like." Updated: A second review is in, and it's a whole lot more critical.  Check out why one Camangi Webstation pre-order customer is already looking at how he can return his device after the cut. Camangi Webstation preorders arrive, get unboxed [Video]

, Dec 28th 2009 Discuss [0]

The first pre-orders for Camangi's Webstation Android tablet have finally arrived, and over at Gear Diary they've been sharing some first impressions.  An unboxing video and hands-on is promised, but weight and bulk is apparently far more in line with an Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble nook than expected. Camangi Webstation gets second video demo

, Dec 14th 2009 Discuss [0]

We're still waiting for the first Camangi Webstation orders to arrive with those brave enough to order from the new start-up, but there's at least a second video of the touchscreen Android slate in action to tide us over.  Steven Lin apparently had early access to the Webstation after being invited to join Camangi's test program last month, and he's put up a video overview of the device in action. SlashGear Week in Review – Week 49 2009

, Dec 6th 2009 Discuss [0]

It's been a long week here at SlashGear with the build up to Christmas and Cyber Monday shopping and deals. We learned this week that the DoD had ordered 2,200 PS3 consoles to beef up their PS3 powered super computer. The PS3's are cheaper than buying the Cell processors themselves it seems. Camangi WebStation pre-orders open at $399

, Dec 4th 2009 Discuss [1]

While Camangi's WebStation Android slate got off to a patchy start, we've been curious as to what sort of price the company can bring the 7-inch touchscreen tablet in for, and now we know.  Preorders are being taken for the WebStation - only in the US, Japan and Taiwan, at least at first - for $399 (unless you had an "early bird" coupon which saves you all of ten bucks) with free shipping. Camangi WebStation seemingly imminent; new Android app market launched

, Nov 25th 2009 Discuss [0]

Blimey, could Camangi actually be serious about selling their WebStation Android tablet?  We've scoffed a little at the hitherto-unknown company's intentions of having the 7-inch WiFi tablet on the market by December 2009, but a new site and a freshly launched Camangi Market (for apps friendly to the slate's hardware and screen resolution) seem to suggest that the joke's on us.  For once, we're happy to be in the wrong as if the pricing is right, the WebStation could prove highly appealing. Camangi WebStation Android UMPC on sale “no later than early December”

, Nov 23rd 2009 Discuss [0]

We made no attempt to disguise our confusion about what looked like a poorly orchestrated teaser campaign for the Camangi WebStation Android slate earlier this year, but neither did we deny that there's still a space in our heart (and on our shelves) for the first affordable example of just such a device.  Camangi's site - now fully functional and accepting pre-launch reservations - is claiming that the 7-inch WebStation will drop "no later than early December this year". Camangi WebStation 7-inch Android tablet sows own teaser campaign [Video]

, Oct 12th 2009 Discuss [1]

We're not entirely sure what's going on with Camangi's WebStation, but it seems the manufacturers of this 7-inch Android-based touchscreen slate are hoping to drum up their own mystery campaign.  That would, at least, explain the bizarre press release (which you can read after the cut); the official site appears to be down, but Google's cache suggests the WebStation runs Android 1.5 on a Marvell 624MHz PXA303 processor, with onboard WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS.
