That's right - the iPad comes standard with all 2013 Cadillac XTS models. The Auto tech wake-up: Free iPads and Apple-trained tutors

, May 9th 2012 Discuss [0]

Fiendishly complex car dashboards aren't just a concern to safety regulators but auto manufacturers too, worried that new buyers may not only fail to use gadgetry-packed vehicles but may come to resent them. Cadillac's new 2013 ATS may be tempting gas-heads with its sharp styling and engine options, but the fact that the GM-owned company will throw in a free iPad - preloaded with a new CUE training tool to help owners get the best of their car - should help take some of the sting out of the touchscreen dashboard too. It's not just Cadillac which is reacting, however; other car manufacturers are even raiding well-known computing firms for their tech tutor talent. Cadillac “driverless” tests underway

, Apr 20th 2012 Discuss [0]

There are some real live Cadillac-made semi-automatic "driverless" cars being tested this week using technology they call "Super Cruise." This mode of driving allows for fully automatic steering, lane-centering, and braking in highway driving conditions - but they've got to be optimal or it does not work. Detroit's test runs this week are said by Cadillac to possibly be ready for real-world use by the middle of the decade - we're looking at a boss here, folks, no hands! Read The Full Story

Megaupload CEO raid captures 18 luxurious cars and one motorcycle

, Jan 24th 2012 Discuss [7]

When you're the kingpin of Megaupload and your name is Kim Dotcom, it's not hard to think that it's a good idea to purchase a lot of fancy electronics so you can look awesome when posting yourself sitting in your basement hacking away - but when you've gone beyond hackerdom, there's something else you'll end up purchasing: fabulous automobiles. That's what Dotcom did, and as his Megaupload and other internet-based ventures grew, he amassed what's been revealed today as a king's ransom worth of luxury cars. Amongst these were Rolls-Royce, Maserati, and 16 more in autos dating from 2012 all the way back to 1959. Read The Full Story

Does Cadillac have a chance against BMW? The US car company reckons it does, and the 2012 Cadillac ATS is the Bimmer-killer patriots have been waiting for. Unveiled this week, the ATS mixes rear-wheel-drive with the lowest curb weight in its class, with plenty of emphasis placed on road-handling and performance to compete with the Germanic titans. Camaro ZL1: eyes-on the fastest Camaro ever made [Video]

, Sep 30th 2011 Discuss [44]

Earlier this month I mentioned the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that had just gone official. The car sounds very cool on paper with a new 6.2L LSA V8 that has an Eaton supercharger strapped to it. The engine produces 580 HP and 556 lb-fit of torque. The engine is all aluminum for weight savings and the car is aimed at being very streetable, yet ready for the owner to take to the racetrack at any time.

One of the things I really like about car show season at the major shows around the world is that we get to see some cool concept cars. The concept was a luxury coupe that used extended range electric tech for motivation. Read The Full Story

Obama’s Beast gets beached: Armor plating is heavy [Video]

, May 23rd 2011 Discuss [1]

When your car has 5-inch thick military grade armor, is biochemically sealed, has its own oxygen supply, and can fire tear gas and infrared smoke grenades, it's easy to assume you're driving the perfect urban tank. Unfortunately, as US president Barack Obama - and his presumably red-faced driver - discovered in Dublin, Ireland today, all of that clever kit makes your car surprisingly heavy, too, and simple speed bumps become a whole lot more treacherous. GM adds 14 more vehicles with OnStar app compatibility

, Mar 18th 2011 Discuss [0]

I like that car makers like Ford and GM are offering tech laden vehicles with hands free and other access inside the car. I really like that GM has an app for iPhone and Android users that lets the driver interact with the vehicle when they aren’t in it. The OnStar app from GM is really cool and has all sorts of features. Read The Full Story
