BlackBerry Torch 9810 Review

, Aug 16th 2011 Discuss [5]

It’s been more than a year since we reviewed the BlackBerry Torch 9800, RIM’s hybrid touch/QWERTY slider, and while the company says the smartphone has gone on to be one of their more popular devices, we couldn’t get past the underwhelming screen resolution and easily choked processor. Now, RIM has returned with the BlackBerry Torch 9810, with a faster CPU, more pixels and a copy of the BlackBerry 7 OS. Is it enough to flick the Torch onto full-beam? Check out the SlashGear review after the cut.

BlackBerry Torch 9810 Hands-On [Video]

, Aug 3rd 2011 Discuss [3]

It’s only really when the display on the new BlackBerry Torch 9810 lights up that you realize you’re looking at a different phone to the original Torch. RIM’s industrial design team looks to have taken a break with this new QWERTY/touch hybrid slider, leaving it little different to the first-gen model. Still, with the relatively low resolution display of the first Torch being one of our primary complaints, we can’t really argue too much with 640 x 480 in comparison.

BlackBerry Torch 2 caught in wild: 1.2GHz and VGA display

, Apr 8th 2011 Discuss [4]

The BlackBerry leaks keep on coming, with the latest to break cover being the BlackBerry Torch 2. An update to the original slider, the Torch 2 looks ostensibly the same from the outside, says BGR, but on the inside there's a higher-resolution 640 x 480 display and a speedy 1.2GHz processor running BlackBerry OS 6.1. BlackBerry Torch 9800 Review

, Aug 12th 2010 Discuss [0]

We’ve been waiting for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for months now. RIM’s double-whammy of new touch-and-QWERTY hardware and the latest iteration of their software, the much-anticipated BlackBerry 6, the Torch promises usability, functionality and all-round appeal on a par with high-end smartphones from rivals like Apple and HTC. Not just for the jacket pocket, this one; RIM has set its sights on the mainstream, a far more fickle – and demanding – audience. Will the Torch light RIM’s way into the lucrative consumer market? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Blackberry Torch 9800 gets teardown and video action

, Aug 6th 2010 Discuss [0]

The Blackberry Torch 9800 was unveiled recently and we have already spent some hands on time with the smartphone from RIM. The device was hoped to help turn RIM around, but many have been lukewarm on the new smartphone and its chances of helping RIM out of its slump. Read The Full Story

Carrying a Torch for RIM – the Gartenberg Take

This was a momentous week for RIM. They announced the new BlackBerry Torch a capacitive touch screen slider along with the latest version of their platform, BlackBerry 6. In a year where phones and platforms are changing dramatically, will this be enough for RIM to slow down market share loss and help win the hearts and minds of consumers that may be looking elsewhere for additional functionality beyond what RIM has traditionally provided?

BlackBerry Torch hands-on

, Aug 3rd 2010 Discuss [0]

RIM’s BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the company’s answer not only to the iPhone 4 but to the growing legions of Android devices; from our first hands-on we’re certainly impressed with the build quality. For the first time it’s possible to have a touchscreen BlackBerry without sacrificing the hardware QWERTY keyboard, and as you’d expect from RIM that keyboard is one of the Torch’s prime advantages.  More first-impressions after the cut.

RIM countdown begins: BlackBerry OS 6 and Torch 9800 approach!

, Aug 3rd 2010 Discuss [0]

SlashGear is in New York this morning for RIM's BlackBerry event, and if you ever doubted how much we love you then hopefully our presence in this roughly 200-strong queue of people waiting to get in is evidence enough.  Top of the agenda today is likely to be BlackBerry OS 6, but we're also expecting the BlackBerry Torch 9800 to make its debut, a touchscreen slider with a full QWERTY keyboard. FCC clear BlackBerry 9800 ahead of today’s reveal

, Aug 3rd 2010 Discuss [0]

In just under two hours time we're expecting RIM to announce their new BlackBerry 9800 slider alongside BlackBerry OS 6 in New York - our own Vincent Nguyen will be bringing us all the news from the event - but there's the thorny issue of FCC approval to be navigated before the smartphone can go on sale.  Engadget spotted a "BlackBerry smartphone model RCY71UW" clearing the FCC earlier, and after some mild Photoshoppery discovered that the wireframe matches up with leaked 9800 prototypes. That gives us a list of wireless specs to go from, including Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1900 and UMTS II (1900) and V (850), together with GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800 MHz bands and UMTS I (2100) bands for international users. RIM Lands BlackPad.com, Tablet Rumors Heat Up

, Jul 28th 2010 Discuss [0]

It's been a little bit of time since we last heard a rumor about the (supposedly) inevitable tablet from Research In Motion, so now's as good as time as any. The company based out of Waterloo has bought a new web address, apparently making sure that they get to keep the name, "BlackPad." It's changed hands in the past, and so the current belief is that RIM paid some kind of sum to the previous owner, but those details are missing from this new report. Read The Full Story

AT&T and RIM Event Scheduled for August 3rd, New Device and OS6 Showcased?

, Jul 27th 2010 Discuss [1]

Sure enough, here's the invite. Research In Motion and AT&T are apparently teaming up to bring some big news to the industry, and they've chosen their date, along with the early morning hours of that date, to break the news. Unfortunately, unlike past invites to other events, this one doesn't give us any clues as to what may be getting announced come August 3rd. But, we've got our guesses. Read The Full Story
