The ASUS Eee Slate EP121 has gone up for sale in the UK, priced at £999.99 ($1,627) and with shipping expected on April 20 2011. Your money gets you a 12.1-inch 1280 x 800 capacitive touchscreen, 1.86GHz Intel Core i5-470UM processor, 64GB of SSD storage and Intel HD graphics, but rather than running Android or some other smartphone platform, it gets a full copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Slate EP121 officially priced & dated

ASUS has confirmed availability and pricing of the Eee Pad Transformer and the Eee Slate EP121, the company's two new tablets. The Tegra 2 based Android 3.0 Honeycomb Transformer will drop on April 6 - pre-orders will kick off today - priced at £379 ($608) for the 16GB version and £429 ($688) for the 32GB version. Throwing in the optional keyboard - which also has an integrated battery that boosts runtimes to 16hrs - bumps the 16GB model to £429. A 3G model will follow on in around two months time.

After having looked at this lovely new Android tablet in person yesterday, it connecting nicely to its keyboard bottom and hosting a nearly final build of Android 3.0 Honeycomb, we're quite excited to see it popping on on Best Buy for a mere $400. One of the contention points for recent Android tablet announcements has indeed been the price, prices inevitably compared to Apple's $500 wifi-only iPad trumping most of the competition, but here we've got a possible price competitor!
