ASUS' Eee Note EA800 note-taking tablet is a curious device, opting for monochrome LCD instead of the usual frugal E Ink display, and positioned by the company as a resolutely niche, companion device rather than a converged do-anything slate. NetbookNews have snagged one of the first, managed to get ASUS to re-flash it with English firmware rather than Chinese, and then wasted no time before unboxing and demonstrating it on video.

ASUS 12-inch Eee Note due Jan 2011; Eee Note EA800 priced sub-$293

ASUS' 8-inch Eee Note EA800 ereader/tablet hybrid will launch in December with a roughly $261 to $293 price tag in Taiwan, and be followed by a larger, 12-inch version hitting the market in January 2011. The 12-inch Eee Note - which will be officially announced next month, DigiTimes claims - will presumably also use a grayscale LCD display and have an active digitizer and camera for digital notetaking.

ASUS confirms Google and Windows Eee Pad tablets for 2010

ASUS have slowly been trickling out details on their upcoming tablet strategy over the past few months, with quietly-debuted hardware at trade shows and talk of at least two models sometime in 2010, and now chairman Jonney Shih has thrown some OS talk into the mixture.  Speaking to Forbes, Shih confirmed that ASUS will be keeping a foot in both Microsoft's and Google's camps, with at least one machine running either Google Chrome OS or Android and another getting Windows, as they prepare to take on Apple's iPad.
