Sure, the iPad has 82% Market Share, But Will it Last?

It’s no secret that the iPad is the most popular tablet out there right now. But the key words there are “right now”. The iPad had a year’s head start, and created the current tablet market that so many others are now rushing to join. A survey by the Nielsen company this spring shows that the iPad has an 82% market share of tablets in the U.S. 43% of iPad owners have the 3G version, and 39% have the Wi-Fi only tablet. The closest competitor was the Samsung Galaxy Tab, though it’s hard to call 4% “close”. No doubt the iPad is a great tablet. We on SlashGear have called it the best on the market. But will that still be true next year? And what impact are tablets having on the way we use our other devices?

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Slate EP121 officially priced & dated

ASUS has confirmed availability and pricing of the Eee Pad Transformer and the Eee Slate EP121, the company's two new tablets. The Tegra 2 based Android 3.0 Honeycomb Transformer will drop on April 6 - pre-orders will kick off today - priced at £379 ($608) for the 16GB version and £429 ($688) for the 32GB version. Throwing in the optional keyboard - which also has an integrated battery that boosts runtimes to 16hrs - bumps the 16GB model to £429. A 3G model will follow on in around two months time. Acer's Aspire Revo nettop has just received a welcome shot in the arm, courtesy of a dual-core Atom 330 processor and an extra gig of RAM. The Aspire Revo R3610-U9012 kicks out its predecessor's Atom 230 chip in favor of the quicker alternative, and pairs it with 2GB of RAM, Windows 7 and NVIDIA Ion graphics.
