ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell: $390 and 10.5hrs battery

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell: $390 and 10.5hrs battery

It comes as no great surprise, seeing as we saw the product page back in May, comparison shots with the 1008HA a few days after and an unboxing video a few days ago, but ASUS have now officially announced the Eee PC 1005HA Seashell.  Available to preorder from today, the 1005HA Seashell has the usual Intel Atom processor - in this case the 1.66GHz N280 - paired with 1GB of RAM, but it also offers what ASUS are calling the longest-lasting battery life for one of their netbooks to-date: up to 10.5hrs, in fact.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-M & 1005HA-H announced

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-M & 1005HA-H announced

As expected, ASUS have announced new variants on the Eee PC 1008HA "Seashell"; unexpectedly, however, this isn't the 1005HAB as was tipped on the company's support site, but the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-M and 10005HA-H.  The two new netbooks borrow the same sleek styling as the 1008HA, but pair it with removable batteries: a 2,200mAh good for 8hrs in the 1005HA-M, and a 2,800mAh good for 10hrs in the 1005-HA-5.

Pegatron Smartbook out-slims skinny Eee PC

Pegatron Smartbook out-slims skinny Eee PC

Pegatron's Smartbook prototype has made another appearance, this time squaring up to one of ASUS' Eee PC models in order to flaunt its slender chassis.  The Smartbook - here in touching, emotionally-available, secure-in-its-own-masculinity pink - is considerably thinner than a netbook (the 1005HA) that until now has helped lead the pack in terms of slimline scale, and it's not an unfair battery comparison either.  The Pegatron may only have a 2-cell, 4,400mAh battery, but thanks to the low-voltage components inside it's rated for around eight hours runtime.

ASUS Windows 7 Upgrade Program is light on Eee PCs [Updated]

Earlier in the month we heard that Atom N270 based netbooks and nettops would be unlikely candidates for inclusion in the Windows 7 Upgrade Program, and that's looking to indeed be the case.  ASUS have announced details of their program, including which models will be eligible, and only two of the company's sprawling Eee PC netbook line are included: the 1101HA and the 1005HA.
