ASUS blames unexpected demand for Eee Pad Transformer shortages

Shortages of ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer are apparently down to the tablet being a victim of its own success, according to the company's Taiwan spokesperson, not component shortages or anything else. Despite reports that ASUS could only build 10,000 Transformers per month because Apple had snapped up all the available display supplies, David Chang told Netbook News that in fact it was simply down to ASUS not expecting as many buyers as they've had.

ASUS snap up Tegra 2 chips for March 2011 Eee Pad EP90 launch

Further evidence for ASUS' leaked Eee Pad EP90 tablet has emerged, with the word coming out of Taipei that the company has ordered 200k to 300k NVIDIA Tegra 2 chips.  According to the source, ASUS will initially use the second-gen Tegra in the EP90, which supposedly runs Windows 7 Embedded on an 8.9-inch touchscreen, and then on smartphones capable of 3D gaming and Full HD media playback.

ASUS prices Eee Pad range: $399 Android EP101TC, $1k EP121

ASUS CEO Jerry Shen has confirmed pricing for the company's upcoming tablet range, with their Android-based model slipping in beneath the iPad's base price.  According to PCWorld, the ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC will cost under $399 when it arrives in March 2011, and will be the third in the company's new line-up; first will be the ASUS Eee Pad EP121, announced back at Computex and set to cost around $1,000.

ASUS confirms Google and Windows Eee Pad tablets for 2010

ASUS have slowly been trickling out details on their upcoming tablet strategy over the past few months, with quietly-debuted hardware at trade shows and talk of at least two models sometime in 2010, and now chairman Jonney Shih has thrown some OS talk into the mixture.  Speaking to Forbes, Shih confirmed that ASUS will be keeping a foot in both Microsoft's and Google's camps, with at least one machine running either Google Chrome OS or Android and another getting Windows, as they prepare to take on Apple's iPad.
