ASUS has quietly confirmed its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade schedule for the original Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider, promising Android 4.0 will be pushed out as soon as possible after the January 12 Transformer Prime launch. When the year 2011 is looked back upon by the Google historians, they’ll mark it as the first time they officially made an effort to bring the Android platform to devices with displays larger than handheld smartphones – what we saw, as a result, was everything from the XOOM to the ASUS Transformer Prime. The folks at Google created a version of their mobile operating system Android titled Honeycomb and numbered version 3.0. This operating system began its life in the wild on the Motorola XOOM, a 10.1-inch tablet that by the end of the year would be replaced by the XYBOARD, a tablet which physically in weight and thickness to the iPad 2 – the dominant force in the tablet space throughout the vast majority of this past year.

ASUS’ Eee Pad Transformer Prime will launch on November 9, according to an investor conference presentation, with two further Eee Pad “hero products” expected in Q1 2012, as the company attempts to build on the success of the first-gen Transformer. Meanwhile, Windows 8 tablets are set to follow on later in 2012, according to the slide desk [pdf link], though the first such models won’t arrive until Q3 next year.

Asus finally launches Eee Pad Slider

Back in August, the official page for the Eee Pad Slider went live on the Asus website. Today Asus has announced the official launch date for the tablet will be October 24.
