CES 2009: ASUS Eee Keyboard touchscreen close-up

Of all the new products ASUS announced at CES today, the Eee Keyboard is one of the most interesting.  A full computer built into a QWERTY keyboard, as well as Ultrawideband HDMI and WiFi b/g/n, it also has a 5-inch touchscreen for shortcuts, media browsing and use as a virtual mouse.  While just a prototype at the moment, ASUS were cagey about its potential for market availability; SlashGear spent some more close-up time to see exactly what that touch-display can do.

ASUS Eee PC 1000HA gets new keyboard

ASUS Eee PC 1000HA gets new keyboard

ASUS announced today that they would now be offering their super popular Eee PC 1000HA netbook model with a new addition: a chiclet-style keyboard that's more comfortable and easier to use.

Prior to the update, some of the keys were in non-traditional places, making typing by touch difficult. But that's remedied now, and the 92% keyboard feels comfortable and responds easily and accurately since the keys are separated and blocky.

Battery life has also been increased to 7 hours thanks to energy-saving components like the Intel Atom processor, the LED-backlit display and the Super Hybrid Engine or SHE, which lets you adjust power consumption as you see fit. Other specs include 1GB of RAM, a 10.2-inch screen with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, a 160GB HDD, Wi-Fi B and G and 10GB of online storage. You can get the revised Eee PC 1000HA now for $349.

ASUS Eee PC 1000HE early tests: no vast N280 improvement, keyboard good

ASUS only announced the Eee PC 1000HE on Monday, but LaptopMag have already had a chance to play with what's set to be the first Intel Atom N280 model on the market.  Aesthetically the biggest difference between the 1000HE and its 1000H predecessor is the new VAIO/MacBook style "chiclet" keyboard, but it's the grunt of this netbook that we're really interested in: Intel have previously promised much improved HD video playback from the new GD40 chipset.  Update: There's no GD40 in this 1000HE, and there won't be in any production model.
