I have no need for a tablet

Though your humble narrator may review tablets, smartphones, desktop computers, laptops, and gadgets of all kinds, and would give you a fair look at the load of them, one thing remains true of the first item on that list without fail: at the end of the day, I really could do without a tablet. The same could be said about a desktop computer, but that ship sailed a long time ago if you believe your everyday average tech blogger. Why would I want a machine that I had to leave in one place when I’ve got this perfectly good portable screen connected to a keyboard right here in front of me? More to the point, why would I want then to remove the keyboard piece of this puzzle when it wasn’t causing me any trouble or amount of discomfort in any way in the first place?

Asus unveils super-thin and sexy U36 ultra-portable with standard voltage Core i5

Asus has unveiled a new ultra-portable notebook computer that is crazy thin. The machine is billed as the thinnest notebook in the world to use a standard voltage Intel Core i5 processor. Generally, the thin notebooks have to use a low voltage processor to be able to get a decent battery life. The chassis of the machine is 19mm thick and is made from lightweight magnesium alloy with a nanometer coating. That coating helps the machine to repel dirt, water, and fingerprints. Welcome to this week's edition of the SlashGear Week in Review. With Computex 2011 going on there were all sorts of new gadgets and other gear being unveiled at the show and lots more going on during the week. Monday we learned that the Samsung Galaxy S II had sold 1 million units in Korea. That number is a record and it took the original Galaxy S 70 days to sell a million units. The Asus Eee Pad MeMO 3D went official early in the week with a 7-inch screen and support for 3D with no glasses. The tablet's 7-inch screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600. Read The Full Story

MSI WindPad 110W and 100A offer 10.1-inch Win 7 or Android

It's not just ASUS, Gigabyte and ViewSonic talking tablets at Computex 2011; MSI has also brought along some slates from its updated WindPad range. The MSI WindPad 110W and WindPad 100A run Windows 7 and Android respectively, both having 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 IPS displays. The WindPad 110W gets an AMD Brazos CPU with Radeon HD 6250 graphics to call its own, while the WindPad 100A uses an ARM Cortex A9 dual-core, which we're guessing is the Tegra 2. Read The Full Story

ASUS docking tablet/phone combo and 3D slate tipped for Computex

ASUS continues its pre-Computex teaser campaign, with signs of what could be two new and reasonably different tablets. As well as the new super-skinny Eee PC, there's the promise of "a tablet that jumps out at you" and the cryptic "pad or phone." Apple MacBooks Top All Notebook Categories On Consumer Reports [Updated]

Galaxy Tab 10.1 Review (Limited Edition)

Samsung helped lead the Android tablet charge last year, with the original Galaxy Tab, a 7-inch slate which even Google admitted may have been released before the OS was ready. Now, with Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets like the XOOM, G-Slate and Eee Pad Transformer on the market, Samsung is back with its second attempt, the larger Galaxy Tab 10.1. Heavily reworked – even after its first official appearance – in order to better compete with the iPad 2, Samsung has high hopes that this is the slender slate to knock Apple off its pedestal.
