Archos Android MIDs A5S and A5H revealed in FCC filing

Archos' upcoming Android MID has been prematurely outed by the FCC, ahead of its expected launch on September 15th.  The Archos A5S (model 7501) Internet Media Tablet - a second, sibling device, the A5H (model 7502) was also mentioned in the user guide - bears a strong resemblance to the company's existing Archos 5, has a 5-inch (or possibly 4.8-inch) touchscreen display and includes WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and an FM transmitter/receiver.

Android MID spotted again; cavorts with Archos PMP and SmartQ 7

The Android MID mystery continues, with more images of the compact touchscreen slate showing up at various forums.  We're now up to our third batch of leaked images - the first and second batches appeared over the past week or so - with the device being pegged as anything from Apple's upcoming tablet (highly unlikely) to Arcos' much-talked-about MID, but with no official identity forthcoming at least the source of the pictures has seemingly been confirmed.

Archos Android Internet Tablet event announced for September 15th

As promised, Archos have announced that they will be holding a press conference on September 15th where star of the show will be their new Android Internet Tablet.  The company has also launched AppsLib, a new directory for developers and the Android apps they create for "high-end Android devices"; that site lists development guidelines for the touchscreen device as using a 5-inch WVGA display, with 720p video support, an HDMI output and native OpenGL libraries.

Details of Archos' upcoming entry into the netbook market have emerged, found among the files at ArchosTest.fr, and anyone hoping for something as interesting or concientously designed as the company's Internet Media Tablets will be sorely disappointed.  Instead, they've slapped their their brand on a dull OEM netbook design, the Hasee MJ125, with the usual 10-inch 1024 x 600 display, Atom 1.6GHz processor and 160GB hard-drive.

Archos 5G PMP, M! MID & Eee PC 901 3G+ all launch on SFR with HSDPA

French carrier SFR has officially announced three 3G-enabled mobile devices, the Archos 5g Internet Media Tablet, the M! PC Pocket and a WWAN-enabled ASUS Eee PC 901.  All have integrated 3G HSDPA modems, with monthly data subscriptions of €19.90/$25 (for existing subscribers; €24.90/$32 for new) on the Archos and M!, and €29.90/$38 (for existing subscribers; €34.90/$44 for new) on the ASUS Eee PC.  The Archos 5g has a 30GB hard-drive and new, SFR-specific menus and widgets.

A few months back, when we wondered out loud about abbreviations, one of the easiest targets was the ultraportable device market.  Mobile Internet Devices, Ultramobile PCs, Personal Media Players; as manufacturers rush to grant their gadgets more functionality, all seem to end up overlapping.  The Archos Internet Media Tablet isn't a MID, not by Archos' own definition anyway, but it does offer internet access, on a touchscreen tablet, in a device that's certainly mobile.  Pocketables have been comparing the Archos 5 (soon to be available with integrated 3G WWAN, remember) with the Aigo P8860, a gadget which certainly does claim to be a MID.

Archos 5g HSDPA PMP French pricing leaks

Archos' latest range of Internet Media Tablets, the 5 and 7, are on sale in many markets worldwide, but if you want the 5g version with integrated HSDPA you'll have to head to France.  SFR is so-far the only carrier to have publicly signed up to the WWAN PMP; their official launch is expected later this week, but they've been scooped by November's issue of Stuff magazine.

Archos Internet Media Tablet update bringing ‘innovative’ 3G features

The Archos Internet Media Tablets are set to receive a significant feature upgrade, at least those using French 3G network TIM, according to a cryptic tip from Archos Lounge.  While details are scant at present, the update is promised to "make real progress in terms of features for geeks like us" as well as comprise "functions [that] would be totally innovative for the French manufacturer".
