Motorola challenges Apple with tablets in the classroom

Apple isn't the only company with its sights on the schoolroom; just as the company revealed iBooks 2 with new interactive textbook functionality, Motorola has been talking about its own pilot scheme putting Android tablets into students' and teachers' hands. The project began in November last year, using Motorola's XOOM at a San Diego high school in math and science classes, delivering digital textbooks and notetaking, recording multimedia and other content, accessing online learning resources and submitting assignments through Google Docs.

Apple talks TV and tablets with media execs

Apple has reportedly ramped up its TV strategy, outlining a Siri and motion controlled television system in recent meetings with media executives and fleshing out its wirelessly-enabled smart TV set. The company has been courting several of the larger media companies, the WSJ's insiders tell them, selling the benefits of a cross-platform system that could recognize viewers whether they were using their TV, a tablet or a phone. However, the talks have fallen short of entering the negotiation phase for actual content licensing.

Samsung may one-up Apple with 11.6-inch tablet sporting 2560×1600 resolution, coming February

Rumor has it that Samsung has plans to take on Apple's upcoming iPad 3 tablet with its own 11.6-inch tablet, which may sport an incredibly dense, Retina display-shaming resolution. The new tablet will also have Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and will be most likely to debut at this year's Mobile World Congress this February. Though the tablet will have a larger display than Samsung’s current Galaxy Tab 10.1, the tablet will be “barely larger”, since the panel will have a thinner bezel with a stunnning 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, 11.6-inch screen, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Apple's rumored iPad 3 Retina display should gear up for some competition.

Apple’s “clearly wrong” Aussie Samsung tablet ban overturned

Apple’s “clearly wrong” Aussie Samsung tablet ban overturned

Apple's sales injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia has been overthrown, with an appeals court dismissing the original block as "clearly wrong" and allowing the Android slate to go on sale this Friday. The Cupertino company secured a short stay until the end of the week so that it could ready an appeal of its own, but was told by the Sydney court that if it wanted to extend the tablet ban - handed down in October when Apple convinced a judge that Samsung had "slavishly copied" its iPad design - it would need to convince the High Court.

Apple has tablet “monopoly” says judge as Samsung appeals ban

Samsung has accused an Australian judge of "fundamental errors" and of misunderstanding the law, as the company protests its recent legal failures against Apple. Challenging the Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales ban awarded last month in the appeals court this week, Samsung described the original ruling as being "grossly unjust" SMH reports, and arguing that Justice Bennett "misunderstood and misapplied the basic requirements" around deciding whether Apple's patents were in fact valid.

Apple wins Samsung tablet sales ban in Australia

Apple has won a preliminary sales injunction against Samsung in Australia, blocking the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from hitting store shelves and leaving the Korean company to face either a 2012 trial or scrapping the slate altogether.
