, May 24th 2012 Discuss [0]

When it comes to the greatest in living room entertainment, Smart TV is only half of the battle: actually accessing that smart content presents challenges of its own. Statistics show that a sizable number of Smart TV owners don’t actually use the more advanced features their sets are capable of, intimidated or confused by the complexity of the button-encrusted remotes. Samsung has taken its own route to interactivity, replacing overly-complex remote controls with a combination of gesture, voice and face-recognition.

, May 24th 2012 Discuss [0]

Availability of Apple's new iPad continues to improve, with online orders in the US now seeing the shortest ever waiting period for buyers of the third-generation iOS tablet. Released to rave reviews several months ago, strong pre-sales and subsequent high demand led to a lengthy wait for those who opted to buy their new gadget from Apple's web store. However, online orders of the Apple tablet in the US are now expected to ship in 1-3 business days, down from the 3-5 day delay earlier this month. IBM blocks Dropbox and iCloud as well as Siri

, May 23rd 2012 Discuss [0]

Earlier today it was reported that Siri was being blocked for IBM employees nationwide as a sort of cut-back on their "bring your own device" policy for smartphones and tablets at the workplace - that policy has expanded, it seems. A new addition to the reports we've heard this morning indicate that IBM not only has Apple's Siri blocked, but several other applications such as Dropbox and Apples iCloud. The reason IBM has these applications blocked from the their offices is simple: data might not be as secure through these applications as they want their employees data to be. Read The Full Story

“I want you to run Motorola. Can you let me know by tonight?” asks Google CEO

, May 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

In a strange twist on the whole Google Motorola acquisition story, today the very recently announced new CEO of Motorola, Dennis Woodside, spoke with Bloomberg on how it came to pass that he was chosen for the job. As the story goes according to two sources familiar with the matter, Woodside was at one point (still working with Google) about to get poached by Apple's CEO Tim Cook when Google's CEO Larry Page promised him "greater responsibility" in the future. It now appears that, if indeed that particular agreement were true, that this week's appointment of Woodside to CEO of Motorola might fall right in line with this suggested reality. Kodak patent used against Apple and RIM invalid

, May 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

Back in January, Kodak filed suit against Apple and RIM saying that the companies infringed on its patents. The digital imaging company filed the claim with the International Trade Commission, saying that Apple and RIM both infringe on a patent relating to the preview of images. Apple files for Samsung Tab ban in USA

, May 21st 2012 Discuss [0]

The Samsung legal team is defending itself this week against a potential Apple-led ban of their Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, this just three days before court-moderated settlement talks between the two manufacturers. This motion is being filed by Apple after a partially successful appeal was won by Apple on U.S. Patent No. D504,889 which has the Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringing on the iPad enough that the court may ban (temporarily or indefinitely) the Samsung tablet from sale here in the United States. At the moment Apple has won its preliminary injunction motion so it is quite likely that Judge Lucy Koh will move forward without another hearing and will ban the tablet temporarily. Motion control could save Windows 8

, May 21st 2012 Discuss [0]

You don’t have to be a Minority Report fan to appreciate Leap Motion’s new tracking sensor technology: there’s something tremendously appealing about being able to wave your hands at your computer and conduct the digital world. Motion control has already proved itself more than just a gimmick in gaming, and now it has a chance to not only do that in mainstream computing, but perhaps rescue Microsoft from one of its more contentious Windows decisions. Play it right, and Leap Motion – and others with it – could kill touch in traditional computing before its even had a chance to get started.

Open Android the price for China’s Motorola bid approval

, May 19th 2012 Discuss [0]

Google has secured Chinese approval to complete its acquisition of Motorola Mobility, the search giant has confirmed, though it was reportedly forced to commit to Android openness to sway the decision. Chinese regulators had stood as the final hurdle for Google to complete, with the two companies being given the green-light by both US and European authorities back in February. According to unconfirmed reports, however, China's price for giving the deal its blessing was a renewed commitment by Google to ensure Android remained freely available for at least five years.
