Apple Watch available in-store in Australia, UK

Perhaps the demand for Apple Watches have become so great that it is no longer wise to delay its brick and mortar store appearance. Or maybe it's the other way around, with rumored sales problems forcing Apple to make its first smartwatch more visible. Whatever the reason, it seems that Cupertino is a week early. The Australian Online Apple Store has started accepting requests for reservations and pick-up of Apple Watches from its stores, marking the start of the second retail phase for the smartwatch.

eBay comes to Apple Watch with bid notifications and more

Not one to be left behind on the recent Apple Watch app craze, internet commerce giant eBay has just announced its own app for Apple's new wearable. eBay's new smartwatch app won't allow for users to search for and place bids on items, thankfully, but it does aim to provide both buyers and sellers with useful updates and alerts on marketplace items. This follows similar smartwatch apps from the company for devices like Pebble and Samsung Galaxy Gear.

Apple watchOS 2 will have Activation Lock to deter theft

Apple watchOS 2 will have Activation Lock to deter theft

With Apple's mantra on privacy at WWDC, it's a bit surprising that it managed to leave this relevant detail out of its on-stage spiel. Perhaps there wasn't just enough time to cram all the juicy features coming in the next iteration of the Apple Watch platform, but a mere mention would have been enough for journalists to pick it up. That said, Apple did sneak it in the update web page for its Apple watchOS 2 preview, confirming once and for all that, yes, the Apple Watch will require your passcode to re-activate.

Samsung’s next smartwatch will have NFC for Samsung Pay

Samsung’s next smartwatch will have NFC for Samsung Pay

According to sources, Samsung's next smartwatch, which may debut in September, will be equipped with an NFC chip. But it won't be for easy pairing with other NFC-bearing devices, at least not just for that. Instead, the NFC will be employed for making mobile payments through Samsung's yet to be launched Samsung Pay. This would put that still to be seen smartwatch closer and, once again, at odds with Apple and its Apple Watch, which uses the very same technology also for making mobile payments via Apple Pay.

Casio to host retro smartwatch museum exhibition

Smartwatches and wearables in general may finally be a "thing" today, but that might not have even been possible were it not for the one true originator. That's right, Casio. The Toshio Kashio Memorial Foundation, named after Toshio Kashio, who founded the Casio in 1957 with his brothers, is going to hold an exhibit on the company's watches from 30 and 40 years ago, then considered high-tech with features like calculators and calendars. Think of it as a museum exhibit on "classic smartwatches."

If you're a Pebble user, you're likely aware that the smartwatch company has a bit of an app delay happening in regards to its iOS offerings, and users are starting to get rowdy about it.
