Judge cuts Apple’s award down to $600m in Samsung trial

Remember when a court ruled that Samsung owed just a tad over $1 billion to Apple back in August? Yeah, that was a lot of money. However, it turns out that Judge Lucy Koh has voided almost half of that award down to 598.9 million. Plus, she's ordering up a new trial involving 14 of Samsung's products. Why? Koh says that "the Court identified an impermissible legal theory on which the jury based its award."

Samsung hires ex-Judge who demanded public Apple shaming

Samsung has hired the ex-judge that ruled in its favor against Apple and forced the Cupertino firm to make a public apology on its homepage, calling Sr Robin Jacob as an expert in its ITC case with Ericsson. Apple was made to post a statement conceding it had been "false and misleading" in how it initially fulfilled the court-ordered public explanation by Judge Jacob in the UK in November 2012, but now the retired judge who demanded that has been included among nine experts retained by Samsung as it battles Ericsson in the US, controversial legal commentary site FOSS Patents highlights.

Samsung secrecy bid denied: Apple gets Android sales stats from arch-rival

Samsung must reveal its sales figures for each device deemed infringing on Apple's patents in the US, after an appeal to have the data sealed was denied by the judge. The disclosure was a part of the $1bn award Apple was granted after Samsung was found guilty of copying technology back in August 2012, Bloomberg reports, though the South Korean company moved to have the requirement postponed until its appeal goes before the Federal Circuit court.
