It was realized several years ago that iMessage users were in a bit of a bind if they ever wished to switch to a non-Apple smartphone. Once you used iMessage with your phone number to accept messages, you were sort of stuck there. You couldn't switch to an Android phone, for example, and expect to keep getting messages - iMessage continued to get said messages, even if you weren't using iMessage. Apple released a tool to fix this - you can now de-register numbers from iMessage. Apparently they did not release said tool fast enough, as Judge Lucy Koh is on the case.

Samsung will fight the $120m damages a US court ruled it must pay Apple, the South Korean firm has insisted, accusing its rival of omitting "real world evidence" that would have proved Samsung's innocence. Apple and Samsung back to court as mediation fails

Apple and Samsung are headed back to court next month, after attempts at negotiating a settlement over ongoing patent infringement disputes in the US failed. The two firms had been pushed into mediation by court order, with Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung mobile communications CEO J.K. Shin meeting for a full day of negotiations in February, along with legal teams and other advisors. However, despite numerous follow-ups, "the mediator's settlement proposal to the parties was unsuccessful" the jointly-filed report confirms.
