Kodak patent used against Apple and RIM invalid
Back in January, Kodak filed suit against Apple and RIM saying that the companies infringed on its patents. The digital imaging company filed the claim with the International Trade Commission, saying that Apple and RIM both infringe on a patent relating to the preview of images. A judge has failed to see the argument, however, saying that the patent is invalid, and that neither company violated trade laws as a result.

Apple and Samsung enter mediation talks
A quick reminder in case you’re not following the various legal battles happening across the tech industry right now: everyone is suing everyone. One of the most prominent cases involves a legal tussle between Apple and Samsung, with Cupertino pointing fingers at the South Korean manufacturer, claiming that they blatantly copied various products. Now, the courts have ordered the two companies to try and settle the issue before the trial starts.

Apple accuses Samsung of deleting “vast quantities” of evidence
Apple has accused Samsung of destroying evidence in the ongoing patent battle between the firms, demanding that the court push the jury to assume the Korean company feared it would indict itself. Samsung's supposedly slapdash email storage system has been conveniently blamed for the deletion of "vast quantities of relevant evidence in blatant disregard of its duty to preserve all such evidence" Apple told the Northern District of California in a motion filed on May 1.

Samsung SPH-L300 leaks: Snapdragon S4 and ICS
All eyes may be on the Samsung Galaxy S III, but looks like the South Korean company has another handset destined for the United States that could vie for your attention. A picture has leaked of the Samsung SPH-L300, an Android phone running Ice Cream Sandwich that will feature the increasingly popular Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, plus a design that we haven’t seen from Samsung before.

Samsung predicts record profit for Q1 2012
Samsung's Q1 2012 earnings estimates are out, and the Korean company is expecting record numbers from its smartphone sales among other things. Overall sales of 45 trillion won ($39.8bn) are predicted, with operating profit of 5.8 trillion won ($5.13bn) for the three month period. However, we won't know exact numbers until Samsung announces those imminently.

Apple: Samsung violated code court order
The legal battle between Apple and Samsung continues. This time Apple are accusing Samsung of not fully complying with a court order requiring them to share source code on products such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Samsung reportedly only delivered source code from one of the infringing products, and withheld code on its other products.

Apple wins Slide to Unlock patent dispute with Motorola
All the way over in Germany there's a patent case going on which involves - or until today involved - Motorola and Apple enforcing its slide-to-unlock image patent, EP1964022 This ruling will be the first time Apple has won over an offensive claim against Motorola in Germany, Munich I Regional Court judging a permanent injunction today that Apple now has the option of enforcing at its own risk against a bond. Apple did not win against Motorola in one of three rulings, it being the unlock sequence on the Motorola XOOM (Android 3.0 Honeycomb's circle unlock) but did win against two smartphone methods for unlocking.

Samsung’s first 3G anti-Apple patent suit rejected in Germany
The first of Samsung's seven patent infringement claims against Apple in Germany has been rejected by the courts, though it's unclear at present what impact the decision could have on the Korean company's remaining cases. Centered around 3G/UMTS wireless standards patents Samsung holds, the case alleges Apple has released products such as the iPhone without licensing the tech appropriately. At this stage, though, we don't know if the Mannheim Regional Court decided Apple escaped on a technical reason, FOSS Patents reports, or if it decided that the Cupertino company did indeed have a license.

Samsung takes top position in Australian mobile market, overtakes Apple as leader
Shortly after prevailing over Apple in a legal battle over the the overturned ban on its Galaxy Tab earlier this month in Australia, Samsung has vaulted to the top of the mobile market, overtaking Apple to take the top position in the country’s mobile market, according to a press release from IDC today. The Korean electronics giant is taking some impressive steps, no, more like leaps with this move into the next calendar year. Kudos to them, now only if the Galaxy Nexus launch was handled better, instead of having tempted us with waves of rumors after rumors, just saying.
