Apple files for Samsung Tab ban in USA

, May 21st 2012 Discuss [0]

The Samsung legal team is defending itself this week against a potential Apple-led ban of their Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, this just three days before court-moderated settlement talks between the two manufacturers. This motion is being filed by Apple after a partially successful appeal was won by Apple on U.S. Patent No. D504,889 which has the Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringing on the iPad enough that the court may ban (temporarily or indefinitely) the Samsung tablet from sale here in the United States. At the moment Apple has won its preliminary injunction motion so it is quite likely that Judge Lucy Koh will move forward without another hearing and will ban the tablet temporarily. Samsung may face HTC-like block by Apple next

, May 16th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week we’re seeing one gigantic slip in stock prices for HTC as Apple’s complaint to the ITC has two of their next hero phones blocked from being shipped to the USA – now we must ask if Samsung’s Galaxy S III will be next. What we’re seeing here is the HTC One X as well as the HTC EVO 4G LTE being blocked by “a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order.” This information comes straight from HTC who note that the proposed infringement comes from a dialer app that comes pre-installed on HTC mobile phones. This order dates back to December of 2011 between HTC and Apple when the order was sent down that the order on the case would be delivered no later than April 19th, 2012: this affecting at this point just these two HTC devices thus far.

Samsung’s Software Wake-Up

, May 4th 2012 Discuss [0]

Samsung’s new Galaxy S III isn’t short on superlatives – its quadcore chip and HD Super AMOLED display spring to mind – but the biggest upgrade is surprisingly in software, not hardware. There’s no denying that the Galaxy S III raises the game from the Galaxy S II, bringing the new flagship up to scratch in competing with HTC’s One X and steeling itself for the incoming iPhone 5. Yet, while Samsung excels in hardware, it’s software and ecosystem which took the focus of the company’s launch.

Google to sell Motorola’s hardware division to Huawei?

, Apr 11th 2012 Discuss [0]

It’s fair to say that Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility was a big deal, raising questions about what the Android giant was planning to do with the hardware side of Motorola. While most people immediately thought Google could create their own Nexus devices, the company dismissed such plans, saying it planned to keep Motorola as a separate entity. After speaking with various sources, The Wall Street Journal suggests that Google was only interested in Motorola for the patents, and is planning to sell the hardware division to Huawei. "Motorola shall be expected to obtain full and immediate compliance by Google with Apple’s liability discovery demands" US Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner ruled, Bloomberg reports, though Motorola has fired back with the argument that it has no control over Google's disclosure. Read The Full Story
