Google grabs 1,023 patents from IBM

Google has snapped up a new patent haul, buying over a thousand from IBM in what's believed to be another attempt to shore up Android's defenses against Apple and others. The 1,023 transferred patents were detailed by the US Patent and Trademark Office, with Google subsequently confirming the deal had taken place. It's not the first such transaction we've seen; back in July, Google bought a different 1,030 patents from IBM.

Motorola wants Nokia-style deal on Windows Phone 7

Motorola Mobility would consider adding Windows Phone 7 to its OS roster, CEO Sanjay Jha has revealed, but only if Microsoft could deliver a similar deal to which it agreed with Nokia. Speaking at the at the Oppenheimer Technology & Communications Conference this week, FierceWireless reports, Jha reiterated earlier comments that the company was still evaluating Windows Phone's long-term viability, and suggested that he did not believe that it, webOS and BlackBerry would all survive.

Samsung denies Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales freeze [Updated]

Samsung has moved to clarify the situation regarding sales of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia and the agreement it came to with Apple earlier this week, denying that the settlement will delay the launch of the Android slate. According to Samsung's official comment, AusDroid reports, the "mutual agreement" between the Korean firm and Apple only covers sales of the US version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, a variant it never intended to offer in Australia.

The concept has a rechargeable battery inside for portable listening. We learned that Android 3.2 fixes the screen incompatibility for apps that were previously handset only. Samsung Mobile loses CTO responsible for GSII and Galaxy Tabs

The executive arguably behind Samsung's dominance in Android over the past eighteen months is leaving the company, its been revealed. Omar Khan, who has been CTO at Samsung Mobile and was instrumental in the best-selling Galaxy S and Galaxy S II smartphones and Galaxy Tab series of tablets, is moving to Citigroup, TDG reports, where he will be responsible for the company's global digital banking efforts.
