Sometimes weird things happen at Apple. Losing one iPhone at a bar is odd enough; losing a second, the same way is downright weird. The latest snafu at Apple is firmly on the weird side as well. Apparently, a guy took his malfunctioning Time Capsule back up drive into an Apple Store. When he left with the drive and got home the owner realized he had a bit of extra content on the old supposedly broken hard drive.

Apple's long-anticipated voice control system for the iPhone and iPad could make its debut in iOS 5 or as an iPhone 5 exclusive later this year, if a leaked screenshot confirming an "Assistant" feature in the platform's settings is anything to go by. According to that image, passed to 9 to 5 Mac by a trusted source, and the iOS 5 SDK itself, Assistant will use a combination of on-device and cloud processing to recognize natural-speech instructions - such as "Find me more music by U2" - and be able to use various data sources to present the best set of results.

Apple Store 10th anniversary leak: Secret hardware for weekend install

Talk of an Apple 10th retail anniversary event has resurfaced, with new leaks potentially pointing to a significant product launch to mark the occasion on Thursday, May 19. A new Apple patent application could lead to a new video ringtone system that could dynamically create caller ID clips and animations when your iPhone rings. The application, Dynamically Generated Ring Tones, describes an iPhone automatically cutting together different video clips associated with a particular caller, synching them to a separate audio track and creating, in effect, a unique video montage themed around the incoming call.
