$800 Apple MacBook launch in less than two weeks?

The Apple rumors come thick and fast this morning, as The Inquisitr claims that US retailers have been distributed a new pricelist that suggests an $800 laptop.  Currently the MacBook range starts at $1099, with eight price-points including three each of MacBooks and MacBook Pros, and two MacBook Airs; this new list contains twelve such points, raising the possibility of one or more "budget" MacBooks or even a new entry-level model.

MacBook ‘Brick’ photos continue to leak

More photos purporting to be of Apple's upcoming MacBook "Brick" refresh have emerged, with a similar casing design to yesterday's MacBook Pro shell but intended for a smaller display size.  The photos show another MacBook Air-inspired keyboard, together with a similarly larger trackpad as that ultraportable, but the hinge design is different and the side-views show an optical drive that the Air lacks.

Apple ‘Brick’ describes new Water-Jet MacBook case crafting?

The mysterious "brick" rumor circulating about the expected new MacBook models has just taken another turn, with 9 to 5 Mac claiming that it refers to a new method of crafting laptop casings out of solid bricks of aluminum.  According to their source, the new process uses a laser-guided water jet capable of forming a seamless MacBook casing out of a solid block of metal, requiring no screws or bends (which can weaken the material) and reducing overall weight.

Apple TV, not MacBook, behind latest rumor hype?

Could the new MacBook rumor, that everyone has been getting so worked up over, actually be about a completely different device?  That's one theory: that Apple are preparing to make yet another assault on the living room in the shape of a new Apple TV.  According to GigaOM, a new - probably PVR-equipped and media streaming - Apple TV would enable the company to push back against TiVo and Slingbox while further taking advantage of their iTunes distribution partnerships with major networks.

If the rumour weasels are to be believed, Microsoft are ahead of their planned October 16th launch of the next-gen Zune range and are intending to drop the feisty little fella tomorrow.  According to BetaNews, Microsoft are planning a launch event to be held at Redmond, with Bill Gates and Design & Development Chief J. Allard announcing the new hard-drive and flash based tiered range before fighting over who gets first dance with the blushing débutante.

Depending on who you choose to believe, today was the day it was all supposed to come crashing down, but since that doesn't seem like it'll be happening, let's recap the news from the day and then jump into the weekend, shall we? Today was a historic day aside from being the rumored end of the world, as Psy's ridiculously popular hit Gangnam Style topped 1 billion views on YouTube, officially becoming the first video to do so and beating Justin Bieber to the punch. We had a new Acer-related leak today, with benchmarks for the rumored V350 flagship phone surfacing, as well as images for the ASUS ME172V tablet.

Facebook’s $16bn IPO means nothing today

The biggest tech event of the year - if you believe the financial pundits - has been and gone, leaving analysts, shareholders and Mark Zuckerberg to pick through the remains of the Facebook IPO. Seldom have so many gathered to stretch credibility and understanding to talk about so little. In the end, despite stock flat-lining in a way that sent delicious shivers of schadenfreude down the spines of those who still can't quite see the worth in shared contemplation of navels, Facebook has more than $16bn of extra cash in its account. For actual Facebook users though - in fact, for just about everyone, even if they're now a shareholder in the company - the IPO is, so far, gloriously irrelevant.
