OS X Mavericks takes 40% of Apple desktop OS cake in 5 months

While it’s not a perfect system since it only really tracks web traffic, not overall installs, this week’s Chitika study shows OS X Mavericks to be doing especially well. Compared to the rest of the Apple-made operating systems on the desktop side of things, Chitika shows OS X Mavericks to be taking 40% of the pie just 5 months after release.

Apple/Google Busses stopped by protesters in San Francisco

After stopping a Google bus two weeks ago, a group of protesters from what appears to be the same organization has stopped a bus full of Apple employees. This set of employees are (or were) on their way to work on a bus that's part of Apple's free bussing project. This project has busses run throughout the city and pick up employees, using public bus stops to do so - Google and Facebook run similar routes.

Apple patents computer with extreme-angle projector, wireless charging

Apple has been bulk-granted 51 new patents, Patently Apple reports, and one of them is a computer with an extreme-angle projector built-in. The patent describes a "desk-free" computer wirelessly connected to all peripherals and using any available vertical surface as a display screen. The computer would, alas, require some presumably non-desk surface to sit on, dashing the hopes of gravity-defying computer aficionados everywhere.

Samsung to appeal Apple suit after “disappointing” Obama ban veto

Samsung will take a second stab at skewering Apple's iPad 2 and iPhone 4 sales in 2014, the company has confirmed, even after President Obama vetoed a sales ban expected to begin this month. What's slightly more questionable is the possibility that part of the production of this chip might be done by Intel. With word of Apple aiming to pull away from Samsung in their chip production across the board having been an unofficial understanding for quite a few months now, it seems that Intel might be aiming to grab a piece of the pie.

Apple in 28nm A6X trial run with TSMC as Samsung faces chip contract loss

Apple's attempts to extricate itself from reliance on Samsung components continue, with titters from Taiwan that TSMC will begin trial production of the Apple A6X chip (found in the latest iPad with Retina) ahead of a bid for the next-gen A7 contract. The test will kick off in Q1 2013, The China Times reports, with TSMC producing a new, 28nm version of the existing 32nm A6X that Samsung has been producing for the full-sized iPad 4th-gen; the smaller chip, which will likely be more power efficient as well, will debut in a new iPad 5th-gen and iPad mini 2.
