, May 24th 2012 Discuss [0]

The folks at Apple have once again pushed out a patent for a device they've never before suggested they'd go through with, this time an "iPen" complete with haptic feedback and a speaker. This device has been discovered by Patently Apple will likely never see the light of day, but was indeed filed by inventors Aleksandar Pance and Omar Leung for Apple back in the fourth quarter of 2010 and was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office today. Have a peek at what might have been - or what may be in the near future. Read The Full Story

iPhone 5 production starts in June

, May 16th 2012 Discuss [0]

With the Summer season upon us, it’s the mobile world that we once again look to for the most surprises, especially from Apple with it’s upcoming iPhone 5, it being a “full refresh” season for the smartphone maker. Apple has for the past several years created a complete refresh of an iPhone, then an “S” version, then a complete refresh once more, this resulting in last year’s iPhone 4S and this year’s big jump into the future: the iPhone 5. What we’re hearing this week is that the production of this next-level smartphone will start with its displays, with orders already placed, so says the WSJ, for a 4-inch screen which will start to roll out this June.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 vs iPad = no contest

, May 14th 2012 Discuss [0]

The differences between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the iPad (1, 2, and 3 for that matter) are immense – though I’m sure the title of this post will evoke a litany of different interpretations from readers here today. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the next-generation tablet from Samsung to come with their own suite of Samsung-tuned applications, while the iPad is the best selling tablet-like device of all time as well as one of the best selling devices of all time, bar none. Samsung didn’t create the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 to compete with the iPad, but the inevitable question that pops up in the mind of everyone considering a new tablet purchase does end up being that almost no matter what: do I want this, or do I want an iPad instead?

Samsung memory ads lampoon lag (but do they swipe at Apple too?)

, May 8th 2012 Discuss [0]

Samsung's advertising team is at it again, this time coming up with some would-be virals pushing the company's memory, but already the firm finds itself at the point end of Apple-bashing accusations. The trio of clips focus on the frustrations caused by memory bottlenecks: freezing, batteries draining in short order, and persistent loading balls. It's the latter, though, that has market watchers questioning who, exactly, Samsung's target is. Read The Full Story

, May 7th 2012 Discuss [0]

Apple's new iOS 5.1.1 may only have been available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users for a few hours, but already there's a jailbreak solution for installing unofficial apps, as long as you have the right device. The iPhone Dev Team's MuscleNerd has confirmed that those with devices not based on the Apple A5 chipset - which means the iPad 2 and new iPad, as long as the iPhone 4S - can use the previously released redsn0w jailbreaking tool. 32nm iPad 2 brings improved battery life

, May 4th 2012 Discuss [0]

If you didn’t want to drop the full $499 on the new iPad but wanted the Apple experience, the $399 iPad 2 wasn’t a bad choice at all. The iPad 2 housed a dual-core 1Ghz processor based on a 45nm chip, and Apple took the opportunity to test out a new 32nm chip with the reduced price iPad 2. How does it hold up? Performance is the same, but as it turns out, battery life has improved thanks to the more efficient CPU.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin has criticized coverage of his "internet freedom" comments, taking to Google+ to clarify his position on Apple, Facebook and the threat of government web censorship.  "My thoughts got particularly distorted in the secondary coverage in a way that distracts from my central tenets" Brin wrote on the social networking site, going on to praise Apple and Facebook after having initially expressed concerns about their closed digital ecosystems. Apple + Valve = OS X Gaming Push

, Apr 15th 2012 Discuss [0]

This weekend we’re hearing basically every single tech, gaming, and Apple-heavy site flip out over the idea that Tim Cook’s visit to Valve means an Apple gaming console is in the mix – I disagree. Several simple factors mean that Apple‘s next-generation television push isn’t going to be a full-fledged television, and several simple factors count Valve out of the physical gaming system game as well. Instead, I contend that Apple will be releasing their next-generation MacBook Pro line with emphasis on graphics and computing power, with Valve’s library of OS X-compatible games there to back up their claims.
